My brother and I are considering a beer trip to either Boston or Denver.

His vote is for Boston, which I feel may be a little one-dimensional in the sense that we'll just be drinking NEIPAs the entire time (not that thats entirely a bad thing ).

My vote is Denver. It seems there are more sours/farmhouse breweries and Id wanna check out Avery, TRVE, Funkwerks, and Anheiser Busch (just kidding on that last one ). Plus, its Denver.

In both circumstances we'll rent a vehicle and be able to travel (Boston to VT & Denver to Ft. Collins, etc.)

    What's say you BA?

Might be biased bc I've never been to Boston but I'm gonna cast my vote for Denver. Ton of great beer all along the front range. Could grab some Melvin cans. Plus you're close enough you could do a day trip to the mountains. You're closer too and less travel time is always a good thing.

There's a lot more than just NEIPA's out here. Trillium does some good sours (really puckering ones, if that's your thing), and some really great stouts. Jack's Abby is all Lagers, and a wide variety of them at that. Oxbow up in Maine (about 2ish hours away) has fantastic wild and farmhouse ales.

Denver! Melvin, Avery, Great Divide, Crooked Stave, Odell, many more. Heck, you can even get Pliny on tap there. Unless neipa is your thing, Denver has better options!

Easily Boston. You have a car right ? You can touch ME, VT, CT quite easily.

Boston, no brainer. There are plenty of breweries cranking out dat juice, but it's nowhere near as one-dimensional as BA would make it seem. A couple of amazing lager breweries up here and some really killer sour projects. Worth imo

I think you're seeing and will continue to see a regional divide in this thread. Those east of the Mississippi will say Boston and those West will say Denver.

Been to both, and Denver is great, but I'd go Boston all day

I've lived in both. As much as I love Boston, you've gotta go to Denver. There's so much more going on beer-wise, it's much easier to get around, and it's also much cheaper to eat and drink in Denver. Plus you've got some of the best cask ales in the US at Hogshead, and some of the best lagers in the US at Bierstadt Lagerhaus. Falling Rock, Black Project, TRVE, Comrade, Station 26, Little Machine, Black Shirt, I could go on and on...

(PS - Added a poll to the thread.)

Denver......take a day trip to Rocky mt national park , bring some beer with you and you can drink up on the snow covered mountains. Quite nice there.

    Enjoy

You can't go wrong in either one. There's a lot more than NEIPAs around Boston or within a few hours drive. Sours from OEM in CT, Belgian influences at Allagash in Portland, lagers at Jacks Abby, barrel aged everything at Barrel House Z, and so on.
Go to one now and the other another time.

Have you already been to Boston and Denver, or just one or the other? Both are great places with plenty to do. If you haven't been to Boston, and you have an interest in history, there's a lot to do that's not so touristy. It's a cool old city that is largely walkable. If your trip is truly beer-centric only, Denver's your place. Some folks have these tough choices! Have fun either way.

I live in Denver so take my opinion with a grain of salt....

Boston has better bars, like Cheers-type bars, where the beer is good but the vibe is awesome...places where I would hang out all the time if I lived there. Also, more city-type stuff and history.

Denver/The Front Range has a lot bars with a lot of beers but they mostly lack character, imo. Denver does, however, have more breweries within shouting distance and outdoor stuff. Plus its cheaper.

So I guess it depends on what you want....

Did you take in a bunch of other factors besides the beer? Such as transportation, costs, weather, dining, culture, and the beer that goes along with it?

They are both great beer destinations but what else do you want out of it?

Both are great. But considering the # of breweries in the city you have to go with Denver.

Denver has 70 breweries in the BA database and Boston has only 6? (That can't be right.) Plus your travel costs from Texas to Denver vs. Boston will save you enough money to squeeze a few extra beers into your budget.
