Just left OH. Met my Mom there who doesn't like IPAs (she did love most their lagers/non-IPAs) and there was literally only IPAs. I love OH and their IPAs but I do agree with the sentiment that they need to diversify quite a bit.

I second (or third) the comments about hoppy stuff. It’s getting a little much. If a brewery has 10 lines and wants to say they’re hop-focused then that’s one thing. But 25 or so is fairly mental. Imagine bringing someone as was mentioned, and trying to explain the difference between them all...

The oft compared breweries that create similar but different hazy IPAs (i.e. Tree house, trillium, alchemist, etc etc) all create very popular non IPAs as well. I love OH but I think their focus on churning out new IPAs every week by changing hop profiles, adding lactose, DDHing, etc might be a tough operation to sustain long term. The other breweries I mentioned have created brand loyalty to specific beers they make, since they make them regularly and have built their business around them. If OH made DDH double mosaic dream every week, they would lose a lot of hype, and line life would go away. They would still sell beer but not as quick as they need. They are thriving by putting out #thatnewnew every week, which as a customer I definitely enjoy, just not sure how they keep that going indefinitely.

On that note time to crack open something DDH!

I think we can have worse problems than Other Half making too many great IPAs.

Hop head for sure, but I do like sours and stouts. Good enough supply of them that I don't need to worry if my local fave breweries are focused on IPAs. And although I don't really drink OH stouts, there are those who enjoy them in the winter months.

I definitelty agree with that assessment..we could definitely be in a worse state of available deliciousness. However sometimes palate fatigue comes into play and I do love almost every style of beer, so options to fresh local non-IPAs would be killer (on the regular). Plenty of breweries have non-IPAs available but most canned offerings are IPAs (they sell; I get it).

Oh and holy shit this new AGE recipe is insanely good! Extremely drinkable and the ABV is not apparent at all.

And on the flip side, why won't Cantillon make a good IPA for once! They're boring as hell with all of their world class lambics.

That comparison is futile: Every beer I've had ftom Cantillon has been extremely unique with months of hard work put at stake for each batch. No beer is alike. However I could say that many OH beers are extremely similar and most are pumped out within 2 weeks. A lambic is an extremely complex beer that changes constantly. An IPA is an IPA...breweries all over this country are doing the same thing and many at the same level. How many breweries are putting out Cantillon-level beers? Answer: one - Cantillon.

Edit: also, how many people around here are hanging out at Cantillon on a regular basis? Its not even close in comparison. It would be one thing if you got to OH once a year and didnt really have access to locally fresh high level IPAs but when its the same thing week after week it leaves you wanting more.

    So much fake news!

While we're on the subject of hype, let's deal with Cantillon. They're basically all the same apple cider vinegar base with different fruits and flowers added to mask the taste of the base beer.

Cantillon, 3F, Tilquin, Bragg, whatever, same thing.

There's a reason nobody bought this swill until suddenly everybody had a "refined pallette" and needed to differentiate themselves.

    just kidding (partially)

"Fruiter" yeast and new hops. Same ABV. It is definitely an East Coast IPA vs the old West Coast style. I am a fan.

I was open to see what an NE-ized version of AGE would be like but this is an entirely different beer. There is no reason to release this under the AGE name, I can't find a remote similarity between the two.

Completely agree. AGE was a flagship beer for them and I think they may have kept the name because this is what AGE is going to be, going forward.

I can totally see why they'd keep the name. OH and all green everything (at least to me) is synonymous. They wanted to change it and personally I'm glad they did.
