Seems fair - they've given away a lot of free beer.

People go to Industrial Way and they hit up Allagash for a free flight and then they go to Foundation/Austin St/Battery Steele and pay for pours so i definitely don't blame them.

Would be nice to have vintage bottles for onsite

Makes total sense. Every time we go there we wonder how they can afford to give away that much free beer. Sure, in the winter when things die down it's not too bad, but my god this summer seemed to be really crazy so giving away all of that beer seemed silly. $4 is totally reasonable and worth every penny.

Yeah, Allagash's current setup is amazing, but imagine an Allagash taproom like Oxbow's...

Definitely understandable, will still visit every time I'm up there. What I'm curious about is whether the additional pours will be only larger samples from the four in the tasting lineup or if there will be additional options on tap.

Has anyone been there in the last couple days? Their website says Coolship Red and Resurgam are for sale in the tap room but the site isn't always up to date. I should just go since I live blocks away but I am a lazy person.

I think Nightshift's flights are $10, and I don't consider Nightshift to be aggregious with their pricing. So $4 is awesome. Especially if they'll still allow you to have the "secret" 5th sample on the flight...

That's a great question. When I saw this thread title I thought, "I wonder if this means Allagash will finally be like every other tap room."

In today's craft beer market having a tap room in which people can chill and drink multiple beers from your line-up is a must. It sounds like they're sort of splitting the difference with flights and 6 - 10 oz. pours available. But how many taps they'll have is a great question.

My other questions are if you're allowed to have more than your two 6 - 10 oz. pours and single flight. And then, is it $4 for TWO 6 - 10 oz. pours, or $4 each?

It seems like you'll be limited to the two pours plus flight. A flight is $4, as is each pour (not both pours for $4) is how I read it.

Bottles were available on Monday. Resurgam bottles were 2013 and 2014.

I love their releases - free coffee, quality donuts, and a flight of 5 - which after all the releases I've attended, paying a nominal sum is the least I can do!

I called this happening before the end of the year when I saw the volume. Which in reality we know is due to the popularity of the other breweries enjoying the boom next door. Was great while it lasted over the years.

I wasn't sure because a flight is 16 oz. of beer for $4.

Let's say Curieux is one of the 5 taps that day. I get a flight for $4 and like it. I'm going to pay another $4 for just 2 more ounces (assuming it's a 6 oz. pour) of that beer, when I can just get another flight?

I would just get another flight, then I get 8 oz. of Curieux for $8, plus I get to try the other beers again.

Even if your pours are 10 oz. That's 20 oz. of beer for $8 vs. 16 oz. of beer on a flight for $4. Typically breweries charge extra for a flight, not the other way around.

And just to clarify, I don't think they're screwing anyone at all, this is a good deal either way. In fact, you could argue they're doing the opposite by charging less for flights.

    Aren't their flights 12 oz (4 x 3 oz)?

The current flight is 12 oz (four 3 oz. pours). Not sure if you'll be able to add the "secret" 5th tap or buy more than one flight. We also don't know if the beers in the flight are the same available in larger pours. I guess we'll find out next week!

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I have pictures from various flights in their tap room, they definitely look like the standard "mini snifters" that are ubiquitous in many tap rooms. Those are 4 oz. Perhaps they don't fill them all the way, most of them in the pictures look 3/4 full.

They look exactly like the ones at Nightshift, and those have a definitely 4 oz. pour line on them. With a little room for head on it.

Regardless, whatever, I'm not going to go there and drink 10 beers anyways. First, many of their beers are stronger. Second, there's three other breweries across the street, don't want to get hammered at any one single brewery.

I'd love to see it taken one step further than Oxbow... a'la Cantillon, Drie Fonteinen, Side Project, Hill Farmstead, etc... With vintage bottles available for on-prem consumption for a nominal uptick in price. Good way to put a dent in their deep stash at the warehouse =) When I saw Russian River offering Wild Friendship bottles for $25 on-prem after Zwanze I dreamt of a day Allagash could do the same.
