Came back last weekend from a 2 week business trip to Pforzheim, Germany. As some of you remember, I was apprehensive/nervous about leaving home and going to germany.
I'm pleased to say my trip went well. My first flight was a smooth one. The people there were very hospitable. The food was good, although I missed home cooking by the end of the trip.
The beer was enjoyable. I found myself drinking mostly dunkel hefeweisen and also the lighter version. Not much of a pilsner guy, so I only tried one of those.
There wasn't a ton of variety, but the beers they made were good for the styles. I did try a german ipa by the name of black forest ale at a restaurant/bar named Schlosskeller. One of you out there recommended I try it and report back. It was a very solid session ipa at 5.5%. I revisited the business and had it again along with other international beers. I didn't get to try many breweries as my coworker isn't a huge drinker. He did imbibe more than I thought, a pleasant surprise.
I also tried grappa, an italian liquor that reminds me of dry white wine made into a vodka strength drink. Bought a bottle to bring home. Also got a couple beer steins.
I saw the porsche plant and part of the black forest mountains, very beautiful. I enjoyed myself and I thank those of you that gave me advice and words of encouragement before my trip. I overcame my fear of flying in a big way, enjoyed strange food and drink and met a lot of nice people. I'm sure there are bigger cities and more fun to be had, but my trip was a success as business trips go.

Thanks for reporting back @Lahey and congratulations on going outside of your "comfort zone". Travelling is so much more fun if you do.

Yeah, I'm a pretty open minded guy. It was just a big trip for me, my first outside of the country. I think my prior fear of flying was making me skeptical of the whole thing. The funny part is I actually enjoyed flying. Funny how things work out.

@Lahey I take it you are in the auto business. Flying on company business is not so bad, though I look back and say that.

There is a fair amount of variety in German beers, but Franconia is the place to find that.
