I really don't think the price will deter many people from entering. If anything it will cause more people to enter as people will have as many friends enter as possible so they can sell multiples to offset cost.

So $45 if you don't count the $10 that goes to charity. Just got finished reading through the facebook comments to Weldwerks' post announcing the price, justification for the price, and details of the release. Part of me thinks, hey, this is a free market and Weldwerks has all the right to make a really expensive beer and then charge an even more expensive price for the beer. But then another big part of me thinks, this just doesn't pass the smell test. I'm conflicted on this one, but I guess I'm leaning toward the "this price doesn't sit well with me" end of the spectrum.

Free market capitalist speaking here. If Weldwerks sells out of this one immediately at $55 (and I guarantee you they will) then it's simply not priced too high. People will speak with their wallets when we get to that level, but I'm not sure where that level is...

Based upon Facebook reactions you'd think WW just shot a Labrador retriever in the face and made Jeff Sessions their new head brewer. It's just beer people.

Double thumbs up to this hilarity. No one is FORCING consumers to buy...that we (some of us) have the OPPORTUNITY to purchase it is great. Don’t fault those that won’t buy but quit with the backlash. It’s expensive, agreed. But think of that Nilla!!

How much were the B.A.M.A/ coconut/ Vanilla 12 oz bottles last time, $15?

Hopefully they put some up on tap. Won't be doing the $55 bottle.

Totally agree with you, but it's still insane to me. More and more it feels like the tail wagging the dog with these hyped limited releases (not just WW, but at breweries all across the country). The trade market hype is what completely drives this. It would be an absolutely fascinating experiment to see how high they could set the price and still sell out. $100? $200? It honestly wouldn't surprise me anymore.

I'm not hating on Weldwerks at all and I completely understand everyone has different beer preferences, opinions and budgets. But when I can get a case of Yeti for the same price, to me it's a no brainer.

Apparently people forget how much BCS Rare was... and that was mass produced.

Next release the price will be lowered to $35 a bottle and they'll try to sell you that as a "deal."

I liked the one beer I did try from Weldwerks but will not being going out of my way to invest myself into them further. Don't like being priced out of something of interest and when I do get into a brewery I find myself becoming interested in trying all their stuff, so would only find myself getting more and more frustrated with them as I find myself not being able to try more and more stuff of theirs. I am very brand loyal.

As for the whole market for these expensive beers....I think its the trading market that allows it to succeed....I have long felt that beer trading is the worst thing about this scene....so that kinda let's you know where I stand on the whole thing. I get why companies cater to them, I just don't like it and try to not support that as much as I can.

And I HATE when companies price their products to include donations to causes. They get a tax right off while we have to spend more on a product we shouldn't have to. Maybe the company was willing to match our donations dollar for dollar, I would be more open to the concept....but that is obviously impractical for these smaller companies.

This seems to be the response to all of our posts these days, *sigh*

It seems no matter what we say or do, we're going to be criticized for it either way. So moving forward, maybe less information and less transparency is the answer. Plus, it will make my job of managing our social media much easier. Today's post could have been simply: "Vanilla Medianoche, $55 per bottle, lottery."

Despite all the backlash, in just 4 hours we have already had nearly 1,000 people enter the lottery :astonished:. That's more than I expected in the full 36 hours, especially at this price point. I find it especially interesting how many of the loudest critics have already entered the lottery. Not sure what to think about that...

I completely agree with this. I could care less what they sell it for, it is a free market. However, I personally would never pay this for a beer. I can go to my local liquor store and buy an 8-10 year old (1.75 L) bottle of bourbon for less money. No idea what ingredients or barrel time cost, but this seems excessive.

Beer gets more serious every day. Just about every brewer I know is frazzled about something they did (or didn't do) that pisses the geeks off. At this point, you're probably best off just going with your gut and putting your hands over your ears. If there are 1000 people in this thing already, that should probably be celebrated as a major success for a little brewery in a cow town people didn't know about 2 years ago. This isn't really my sort of beer, but clearly it has people fired the fuck up. I can't help but just sit back and make fun of the whole thing.
