Loaded question. Schlenkerla Urbock comes to mind. Ayinger Bräu Weiss as well, probably my favorite all-around beer. Plenty of different Münich helles. But I mainly responded to this to say that I think Hill Farmstead's "Mary" is over-rated, probably based on the quality of their other brews. It's very good but I don't think it tops the best German pilsners.

Having had the chance to have both Mary fresh on tap and the Rothaus Pils Tannen Zapfle fresh on tap in the same evening, I definitely agree with this. For me, the Tannen Zapfle was noticably more complex and more enjoyable than the Mary.

Yeah, it's nice enough, but I don't even put it in the top tier of American brewed Pilsners (which are, admittedly, pretty top notch ).

Favorite beer from a German brewer is Weihenstephaner Vitus.
    German style is another question.

If I had to pick one it would be Schlenkerla Urbock. There are plenty of Honorable Mentions, however, including :

    Aventinus
    Celebrator
    Andechs Doppelbock
    Traunsteiner Helles
    all the other Schlenkerla beers:wink:

I suppose it's equal to Coors Light in Germany but I love Paulaner Oktoberfest-Marzen

I didn't know they imported Herran Pils - I had it on tap at Keesman last June and would like to find it here.

They don't. "When I have access to it" means when I'm at Keesmann...every 2-3 years

Einbeck Maibock was always a sturdy brew that I admired. Sweet and dry at once!

    Sly Fox Tettnang Keller Pils.

I would recommend that others try this beer when it come available - it is a rotating beer at the Sly Fox Brewpub and Sly Fox Tasting Room.

    Cheers!

I would have a hard enough time just figuring out my favorite German beer from what I drank yesterday.

I did such a double take when I saw the first post considering the thread title.

    Here are some favorites:

    Schlenkerla Fastenbier
    Muhlen Kolsch
    Ganstaller Brau Zoigl
    Traunsteiner Festbier

Unfortunately, I can't just go to the store and buy any of these though (but the Fastenbier comes the closest to that by far).

Oh tough question - uh, boy .. I guess if I had to go with one I'd pick Ayinger Bavarian pils. BUT I also love Celebrator, Weihenstephaner festbier, Fritz Briem 1809, Grevensteiner ... the list goes on.

That being said - OP, how you going to ask what someone's favorite German beer is and then give an American beer???
