I like doing taste tests (either with family or by myself). I'll grab 6-10 of a certain style and go for it. Whenever I do a TT, there are some beers that have a certain color to them, that makes them easy to guess or narrow down, and I'm trying to avoid that.

I've looked for koozie's and such, but nothing so far. Has anyone ever come across an opaque glass that is good for IPA and Stout styles? I know there are stainless steel, frosted, and glass wraps for pint glasses, but they don't help much with the aroma presentation. Thanks!

I have a frosted snifter, got at a thrift store.

I entered frosted snifter in Ebay search, lots of options come up...not sure if they are what you are looking for. Some are pretty interesting!

Stemless wine glasses should work fine for either style and you can get them in all sorts of colors and sizes.

I know this isn't what you're asking for exactly, but I use Solo cups for my blind tastings. They're close to perfect for me and one reason I use them is that they are opaque. I can use a sharpie on them to mark what they are on the bottom and then number them on the side. I only use name brand because I've found that generic brands might have an odor from the plastic. They aren't snifters, but in my opinion, drinking 10 different beers together creates way bigger compromises on the experience than the shape of the glass anyway.

Cofeee mugs? It seems every FBS and other coffee stouts on WBAYDN are presented in a mug.

The wine glasses don't have to be stemless .Plastic ones from Party City work fine.

Sil pat is an odorless flavorless plastic cup and it's opaque and also other colors. I have not bought them but they seem interesting

    Edit...silipint is the brand.

    Enjoy

I really like my HydroFlask pint glass, never had a problem drinking stouts or IPA's with it and it keeps your drink at whatever temperature you poured it at. Probably cost prohibitive to buy a bunch for a tasting but it's my personal favorite opaque beer glass.

Stout is best drunk from a pewter tankard.

Thanks for the great input! With your replies, I was able to go at this from a lot more angles.

Off and on, over the last 9 hours, I have been researching glasses.. with the following criteria (yea, my wife often reminds me I'm anal):
    1. Solid glass if possible.
    2. Has a curve that allows better aroma capture.. I pretty much had ruled out a pint glass from the get-go.
    3. If not opaque, it must be dark, since most beers will still show their true color in lightly colored glasses.
    4. Made in the USA.

Right off the bat, I found the wine glasses were just about the only 'shaded' glasses, with the curvature that would help with aroma. After about 6 hours looking, I was about to give up and make my own from a couple of black stout bottles. Then, I found these: https://retail.libbey.com/product/cobalt-wine-glass-2/ and ordered 2 of them. If they fit the bill, I'll order a couple more.. thanks again!

Cool choice. I have a problem drinking beer from any glass that is not clear. To the point that even a glass with decoration on it bugs me. I have to turn the glass so I don't see the logo. Cover the glass all over with design and it spoils the experience. Don't know why.

    Good luck on your tasting.

    Enjoy

Opaque Irish Coffee mugs. These fit pretty much all of your requirements (although I'll admit I don't see why it makes any difference where they are manufactured).

Alternatively, you should be able to find black(ish) cellophane in the stores this time of year. Just wrap a few layers of it around some "real" glasses.

Without getting political.. it's how I look at things today. As for the cellophane, I had no idea. Thanks.

Riedel Sommeliers Blind Tasting Glass, is what you are looking for.
It is pricey. But you should remember that it is good quality glassware.

I saw that, and had checked it out a few days ago. However, it did not meet requirement #1.
I checked the very same thing out too, but I am buying 2 glasses at a minimum. Too expensive at this point.

I'd think any opaque glass or cup would work. If you want to be really surprised use a snifter glass and have your wife or GF pour your beer and wear a blind fold.

On average, just me so it a tasting takes about 2 hours. My wife does pour, but the blindfold would be a fail. I'd knock the glass over.. no doubt. Thanks
