I'm confused, what is this? Sour beers from Nightshift at the Boston Harbor hotel?

Trillium Beer Garden is right there as well...

If they started canning those sours, I would go from not being a customer of NightShift to being a customer.

Is this because the cost of a 16 oz can would be (presumably) cheaper than the 750ml bottles they currently sell? That is usually why I don't buy from breweries that sell any beer only in 750ml bottles, that and often times beers like sours or high ABV beers are more enjoyable to me in smaller doses.

Between storage and transportation, it is just so much easier to have cans. Plus, a 750 is often too much of a commitment. I would probably be fine if you could store those bottles on their side, but I just don't trust the cap.

Unappreciated awesomeness: Night Shift lists the "packaged" date for each beer on the taproom beer boards. So you know the freshness of even the kegged beer. Not sure how long they've been doing this but I love the practice.

Night Shift tap room just does it right across the board. Just a great experience to go and visit there.

A big shout out to Night Shift for selling single cans out of their tap room! With 10+ canned options available it can be hard to choose. I grabbed a mix of four different beers today, two of each. Enjoying an award-winning Matisse in the sunshine on the porch right now. Beautiful beer.

Big changes for the Night Shift Barrel Society. NS is dropping the pre-paid membership model in 2018 and will start offering all of their barrel aged beers (El Lechedor, Darkling, one-offs, etc) via pre-sale to the public with a 1-week pickup window. Announcements of the pre-sales will happen via a new Barrel Society email list that is open to the public. Sign up and deets -https://www.nightshiftbrewing.com/nsbs/

Personally I'm happy with this change. I've debated joining in the past but since you could potentially get sours as one of the beers you've pre-bought I couldn't justify it. Its not that I don't like sours, its just that I tend to get really sick if I drink too much sour beer. I'd even have been happy paying a small fee to join if I knew I'd purchase 2 or 3 out of the 4 beers but didn't have to commit to all (sharing hasn't been an option).

I'm also excited that NS is starting to sell kegs through retailers to consumers. Going to pick up my first sixtel of Santilli today and can't wait to have it on tap at home!

I'm also happy about this change to the NSBS. I wanted to join last year but when i heard they were only making 4 beers and giving members 2 of each, instead of a variety of beers, i knew that it meant i'd likely get more beers i dont like. It also seemed like they didnt want to put in as much effort into the NSBS beers anymore, which i can understand.

While i never felt like i wasnt able to get one of their BA beers at the brewery, a pre-order will make it a bit easier. One thing i hope that comes out of this (though i doubt it) is that, since they dont have to make exclusive BA beers, we'll see a few more releases of new ones.

Also i'm glad to see Darkling mentioned, i havent heard anything about this years release which is weird since it's typically around Halloween, right? Maybe after el lechedor they dont want to announce anything until it's all bottled.

That's the crux of it for me too. When push comes to shove the only beer I really care about barrel wise is a stout in bourbon or rum. Lighter beers in wine barrels and such just don't interest me that much (at least at those prices) and that's why I dropped out of the barrel society.

We must not be alone because this is the first thing they wrote in the FAQ:

Why change to a no-membership fee model?
The goal here was to remove the upfront cost for members, while making sure people only pay for beer that they're supremely stoked about.

I'd also guess that the headache of managing the old barrel society simply wasn't worth it for them anymore now that they're so successful.

I do not love all of night shift beers, but i respect the hell out of the way the conduct their bussiness. Always transparent,, always honest, trying different things, and always looking to improve. Wish I lived closer to them. Stop collaborate and glisten and one of their ever Weiss beers were two of the best mixed ferment beers i have ever had. Really awesome brewery. Have not been to their brewery in years...

Between owning their own distribution, bringing in other cool brews from out of state to our shelves, to ditching stupid growlers, their well run and welcoming tap room, and this, there really isn't a better run brewery I can think of.

I really like the change in format for the new NSBS too. I'm looking forward to buying more of the beer styles I enjoy and avoiding long lines by pre-purchasing. The only downside I can think of would be out-of-town members that would be forced to pick up their purchases within a one-week window.

The only downside I see about the new format is those of us who are local who travel for work (a lot, for long durations) missing out due to the 1 week pick up window. But, I'll figure it out.

The FAQ does say to let them know of extenuating circumstances and they'll try to hold them longer. So hopefully a quick email in the event of being out of town will have them keep it for a bit longer for you.
