Getting to the root of this discussion, no it's not, because then by your logic it can be called an adjunct stout, which it is, definitively, not, and never will be.

We are talking about beer, and brewing, a field within which particular words actually mean something. We are not talking about an educational curriculum.

    It is.

    Apparently not.

This discussion has been such a lovely adjunct to the main thread.

yeah i just skipped every adjunct post reading through here...this thread got derailed quickly. Maybe y'all should make your own thread to discuss the definition of adjuncts that i will happily ignore.

Back onto the topic of Bourbon county 17, this is the first time I will be in town for the release. Can we talk strategy of grabbing multiple variants? I'm planning to bring a book to read (or can we drink in line?) at the Binny's LP release, but what places are recommended to hit afterwards?

The odds of you getting more variant bottles after Binny’s LP are slim. But, maybe I’m just not in the know.

I always assumed the city dwellers hit 2 or 3 other smaller places then went to LP. I got there at like 7 last year and didn't get through until after 11. I can't imagine you'll find much by then.

I don’t think there are many (or any) places that open before LP to sell BCBS on Black Friday. Especially smaller places. Most other places I know don’t even do a Black Friday release - they do it sometime in the week or so after.

I know tenure tracks are scarce, but I had no idea there were so many adjunct professors on BA. :stuck_out_tongue:

I know the Jewels that opened at 7am had Rare 15. Did they have 16 variants?

Although not the city, Open Bottle opened at 7. I had a pour of BCBCS '16 in my hand while I waited once in the door. Jewel down the street opened at 8 and only had regular, but sold 5 per if you wanted it. Pretty sure I'm doing LP this year as I am hoping to get Prop and/or Reserve.

Did you get Prop lining up about 7?

I recall last year that it seemed a majority of people hit LP and most 'burby Binny's had "smaller" than usual turn outs first thing.

Yes, that’s the one place I know of. But, that is not a “smaller place” as someone mentioned. I think that was the first year of that, too.

I didn't mean that places necessarily open before 9, though most Jewels opened at 8 AM I believe. I mean that you can go to another Binny's or other local place (I know at least one by me does Black Friday) and still make it to LP with enough time to get a full allotment. I don't know what the cutoff was this year, but it had to be after open. There were still like 500 people behind me in line with a ticket when I got out at 11.

I went to LP, so yeah. I wasn't smart enough to go hunting other places first. That was the reason I just went to the big release, stories of getting there crazy early and not getting everything. However, I know people in my area last year that hit Jewel first, still got a full allotment at the local Binny's, then still hit a 3rd spot (don't remember if they got everything at the 3rd stop).

Whether that works again this year with more variants is hard to say. I haven't planned yet because I'm not even sure I'll be in this state this year.

    Hmm...on the one hand:
    - New Binny's opening about 12 min from me
    - Not in the city, so lines might be shorter (???)
    - Hopefully they'll get a decent allocation in order to make a "grand opening splash"

    On the other:
    - Will have a one-month-ish old daughter
    - Wife might seriously kick my ass if I tell her I'll be gone for a few hours waiting for beer

    Decisions, decisions...:grimacing:

We may be getting into semantics here, but you said most city dwellers hit 2 or 3 smaller places before LP. Last year was the first year Jewel did the BCBS thing I believe. I don’t know of any other city places to do that at. You could do another city Binny’s I suppose, but it’s definitely tough to pull off. I got to LP last year after doing Jewel and I think I got ticket #850 at LP, so it was near the end.

In the end, I just think it’s tough to get to one other place besides LP on BF...but I could be missing out on other places. I end up having to hit multiple releases over the next week or so if I want to get multiple bottles of variants.

Yeah definitely wasn’t saying Jewel was small, just that it’s open unusually early.

Just thinking out loud here: I wonder if the infection issues or 2015 will lead to an upcoming year where the vintages for sale at Binny’s are ho hum. That combined with limited coffee and variant types in general in 2016.

I actually posted about this last year. I got in line at 8:58, two minutes before open and got ticket 1088 out of 1100. As it turns out, there were exactly 1100 allotments. There were people who got out of line, misunderstanding the ticket system (saw a few arguments with Binnys employees about this) and there was also a pile of barleywine that people had removed from their allotments, so maybe a couple dozen non-ticketed people got something. There had to be at least a couple hundred people in line who didn't have tickets and, as a result, waited in line three hours to get absolutely nothing.

What is typically the full alottment ar LP Binny's? One of everything? I know with reserve and prop this year that may not be the case.
