I see a lot more blue collar guys drinking craft beer which got me thinking; "Are my preconceived notions about who drinks decent beer and who still drinks swill wrong?" Further thought lead me to decide to post a poll. I work as a tradesman, but I always assumed I was an outlier as a dirt under the nails guy in the craft bar. There is nothing ironic about my beard or flannel shirt haha! Please take a sec to respond. I am a beer nerd and a bit of workplace demo nerd as well. Thanks! Cheers!

Just graduated and currently working a seasonal field job but transitioning into who knows what. Overall craft seems like a pretty diverse group in this regard, at least to me anyways.

I don't know, but maybe your preconceived notions about what's decent beer and what's swill are wrong.

I'm a tech in the nursing department of my local hospital...

I don't know where healthcare workers fall in that category, but I'm drinking a Founders Harvest Ale right now

I'm guessing it leans towards white collar/college educated men as the highest % of craft drinkers, but I know plenty of farmers, HS education only and blue collar guys as well that are into craft beer as well.

I voted other. For whatever reason most entrepreneurs I know seem to appreciate the craft and diversity the most.

I think defining some beers as “swill” and other beers as “decent” is a slippery slope.

Never been retired but I have been every other category up there and drank craft as each of them.

Huh. Good thing I'm in the other category, but... It seems to me that just because the quality of your collar gets you higher pay typically doesn't mean that you know a great deal more about the "finer" things in life, like good beer and so forth.

Geez BA, why are you starting to crucify this guy? He qualified his statement reasonably. Think for a second, please...

I like to pretend I'm highly educated (I'm getting my master's in December of 2017), but I also work in in retail at a liquor store. So I don't know where I fall. I love craft beer, but I won't turn down a free beer because I'm poor as hell thanks to outlandish tuition payments. I respect all beer, even the goliaths. I think they all have a spot in our society, even the disgusting IPAs.

I'll just sit here and drink my stouts and porters and be happy, thankyouverymuch.

Around here the demography of those that drink "decent beer" is those between 18-110 who are either going to school, looking for work.....never mind. That was an easy experiment. We later determined that the area from New York to Florida, including Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Colorado, Oregon, Washington and California has lots of great jobs, and they drink "decent beer" more regularly. We have some more ongoing projects. This does include Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, and Maine, plus Rhode Island.

I have thought, for more than a second, that's why I've chosen not to express my feelings to/about someone who insults some of my best friends and close family members.

I think it's a mixture of everybody....good taste isn't limited to a certain vocation. Some just have bigger budgets than others

Hope I didn't offend, that was not my point of posting. Like I said I'm a blue collar dude and an outlier in my preference for non macro beer. I like a high life or 10 sometimes but I was curious as to those who care enough to make a profile on this site as to what occupation general category they self identify with.

The insult has nothing to do with jobs held or line of work, but lies in the meaning of the word swill.

"Swill--kitchen refuse and scraps of waste food mixed with water for feeding to pigs.
synonyms: pigswill, mash, slops, scraps, refuse, scourings, leftovers"
