Latest from Cheryl I read last eve:

"Met with the lead neurologist last friday, it's looking grim. I'm not giving up hope though. I will still visit and talk to Hart every day!"

Wow. I’m so saddened to read this. I feel his wife’s pain but I can’t imagine what she’s going through.

I’m on a 10 day vacation visiting Dallas and going home tomorrow. I do have good news: my life longーtime girlfriend and I got married here in Dallas 2 days, but it almost feels icky saying that now. I met the one and only Stahlsturm for 20 minutes. Sweet guy and generous with his beer. Thanks to him, I got to intimately know the great beers of Ravensburg without ever having to leave Ffm. I’m happy I got to meet him and talk to him.
Thank you Bierman so very much for informing us of this.

It pains me deeply to have to post this stuff... I met both Hart and Cheryl once, and it was a fantastic evening... I hope and pray that somehow this dark cloud can be lifted from Hart and we can all enjoy his company once more... positive waves..

    FUCK....

Latest update from Cheryl... just now....

"The post I didn't want to have to make. Met with the neurologist last week. The brain damage is too severe and there will be no change, he will remain in the vegetative state for the rest of his life. Hart will be moved to our home for permanent care in the next months. Life as I have known it is over and a new, shitty and half empty chapter starts. I am beyond devastated and words can't even describe anymore the extreme pain I feel."

I met Hart and Cheryl just once in person, over 10 years ago... but that night endeared both of them to me... I can't type any more.... FUCK......

Dave (@Bierman9), I appreciate you keeping us informed. It is indeed sad to hear what has occurred here. I have never had the pleasure of meeting or 'talking' to Hart & Cheryl but I have always appreciated the contributions of Hart on this forum. These are indeed troubling times for both Hart & Cheryl and the best I can state here is that I will pray for them.

    Cheers!

Thanks for letting us know. It's what I was expecting but not what I was hoping for.

I never got to meet Hart -- we had emailed about meeting at the Tag des Bieres in Regensburg one time when I was in Bamberg but something came up and I had to cancel. Always been on my list to get back in touch and try again but I never got around to it :slight_frown:

If anybody was doing a YouCaring (or similar) fundraiser, I would gladly contribute. I would expect they do things better in Germany than we do in the States but it still has to be a financial blow in addition to the emotional one.

More prayers for Cheryl. I can't imagine what she's going thru, but I hope she finds peace. What city/village in Germany are they located?

Cheryl also posted this on FB last night:

"If anyone wants to send cards or something like that, you can still do so. I have been keeping a journal since the day of his operation and will include these items in the journal. Cards can be sent to: Witches Brew, Postfach 48, 93164 Laaber, Germany. Thanks."

Stahl and I have "known" each other since the early 2000s (maybe late 90s?) when we were both active members over at the RealBeer forum. We've had our agreements and disagreements -- most of which I blame on bad internet communication across half a world, but I'd always hoped to visit Regensburg on my next trip to Germany and have a beer with him. If I do finally make it to Regensburg, I'll definitely honor him by visiting the great spots he always praised.

In the meantime, I went looking for the one brand of beer from his area that I can get around here; Weltenburger Kloster, and I'm having a drink for him now.

Sorry Hart, no Märzen at the retailer -- but it's not a Weizen either. Here's a tip of a Dunkel to internet friends.

    Hi Friends...

Been a few months now... Hart was moved home, where Cheryl and some staff keep an eye on him... not looking good...

This is what Cheryl posted the other day on FB....

    "

Hart is resting peacefully, all medications except those absolutely necessary have been stopped. He is getting food, water, pain medication and sedatives plus a medication to keep him from cramping as the brain damage causes severe cramping in the entire body. It is up to him now but as I have spent time with him today, I know he is on his way to become one with the energy in the universe."
