2017 Darkness Bottle Hunt

IMO, this year's is good. Better than 2016 but not as good as 2015, which was my favorite since 2007/2009.

I don't recall if it was the 2011 or 2012 that sucked for me, but it tasted like a thin porter. Which I have nothing against in general, but I don't want to pay $20 for the privilege.

 

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Back then it was only $18.

 

I think you are thinking of 2012, but I'm cracking both this weekend and will report back.

I agree re 2015, absolute killer vintage.

 

Im thinking 2011, i loved 2012, that was robust roasted malts and hoppy. 2015 2nd favorite and loved 2010, that one is past it prime by 2/3 years now. Just IMO

 

You guys & your opinions. We haven't done a big Darkness vertical since 2013. Might be time again. As the number of vintages increases, my memory of what each was like continues to fade.

Just buy 5 each year, wait for 5 years, and then every year you can do a 5 year vertical, forever!

 

Nobody ever wants to do a Darkness vertical. If this actual happens, I can bring anything ‘12 on (including BA variants).

 

I did one a couple of years ago, it was fun.

I also have been working on a co-worker to either do one or sell his older ones after I found out he had stock of 09, 10, 11 and 12 and doesn't care about Darkness anymore.

 

I've wanted to do a vert for a while! I can also add '09, '10, and '11.

Also, is anyone interested in splitting a '08 with me at the cellar raid on Monday? That $70 price point is a little steep for just one person. @JakeJohnson , etc?

 

Ill be doing a '12+ vert this weekend with friends. I believe with both BA included as well. It's become a Halloween weekend tradition with friends.

 

The Twin Cities beer community was jump-started about eight or nine years ago when a guy name Pat & Mr. Biglobo hosted a series of random tastings with random people. I'm still friends with guys I met at those tastings, & they were a blast.

If anybody wants to put together a Darkness tasting I'll help organize, & bring my '08 & lovely wife along, as well as any other vintages needed. Somebody volunteer!

Alright, I'll take a stab at this - I keep complaining that it is super hard to find great beer buddies, so let's figure something out.

I have a tiny little house in Roseville and I'm game to host a vertical - it'll definitely get crowded in here, FYI! If @maximum12 can bring an '08, I can throw in '09-'11, and @JakeJohnson and others can cover more recent vintages, I think we have a full vert all ready to go.

I started a spreadsheet - let's get some names down, and figure out a date that works for everyone. Who's interested?

 

It looks like you have it set to read only. We will hopefully get enough people that no one will need to bring more than 1 or 2 vintages. Otherwise, we’ll end up with more Darkness than anyone wants to drink.

 

Whoops whoops, sorry about that. All good now! And yes, I figure we should have at least six people - drinking a couple of bottles of Darkness each would be a task. A wonderful one, but a task.
