Had to go to work at 3am. Just got back and ready for some early drinking. Starting small with this "stubbie" can from the Nicaragua Craft Beer Company. It's supposed to be a Keller Pils but it drinks more like a Helles.

Finishing the last Trillium straggler. Honestly, at 7 MONTHS old, this is still damn tasty. Trillium held up better than Treehouse, glad I've tried both super fresh and older. Need to return to Boston...

Fell asleep at the bar in 1833 (after they stopped serving me) and woke up in 1834. Weird.

Morning BAs! Up early for the Man Utd vs Tottenham game. Pulled out this favorite red beer for my Red Devils, but it seems Rocky wants a piece of it too. He's probably hungry, I found him heisting a bag of tortilla chips this morning

Don't know that much about New Glarus, but that beer makes me drool every time I see it...

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Looking to be quite the chilly day up here today. I need to take a drive out to my LHBS and get more CO2. My tank leaked out from the regulator hose when I was trying to carbonate my stout earlier in the week. Will have to buy a larger barbed fitting for my gas lines I believe. Also kicked the last of a keg a few days ago, so might pick up a recipe or something to make as well. I might be kegging another melomel.

    Beers this morning:

Fantastic as usual! Flavors of big toasted coconut, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, cream, toffee, dark bread, marshmallow, and light coffee. Light balancing roast bitterness against sweetness; with an amazing creamy/silky/velvety medium body; light touch of sticky/chalky roast character and dryness. Glad it was easier to find this year. I bought 4 full packs last week. Definitely my top favorite coconut beer, but there are plenty others I buy more often. Wish this was year round.

Outstanding DIPA! Aromas and flavors of huge grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, and piney hops; with some light caramel, bready malts; and dank herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Nice sized pine, citrus rind, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; very sticky/resinous mouthfeel with some balancing bready malt creaminess. Moderate increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Minimal warming 10%. Awesome mix of vibrant and dank hop flavors across the board. Just as amazing as I remember when I reviewed it 2 years ago. Glad I got a full pack as expected. Might get another, depending on how fast I finish these off.

Awesome imperial stout! A bit higher in ABV this year at 11.5%. Flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, fudge, toasted dark bread, and nutty malts; with lighter notes of vanilla, smoke, charcoal, dark fruits, and herbal/spicy hops on the back end. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and roast/char bittersweet balanced finish. Full bodied with an great creamy/silky mouthfeel; and lightly sticky/chalky from roast/char malts. Lightly increasing bitter/roasted dryness. Completely on point for an Imperial stout. Not too overly bitter or acrid/roasty, and big on malt complexity. New Holland has really been killing it lately on the stouts with the Dragons Milk variations. With this being their standard Imperial stout, this is sometimes overlooked, and is just as awesome. Feels almost like an imperial version of The Poet. Looking forward to aging some more. Still need to check out last year's Pilgrims Dole.

Revisiting this now that we get them in the state. Reviewed it 4 years ago. This is still a fantastic dubbel! Awesome head retention and lasting lacing for the style. Flavors of big raisin, plum, fig, pear, red apple, cherry, date, peppercorn, clove, and light banana/bubblegum yeast; with balanced caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, and light nutty/chocolate malts; with some herbal/grassy hops and yeast earthiness. Moderate peppery yeast spiciness and light herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-plus body. Balanced bready/grainy creaminess and yeast/hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Fairly crisp. Increasing bitter/spicy/carbonated dryness on the finish. Will definitely get this again even with the bigger format bottle. This is a spot on Dubbel, nails the style. Perfectly balanced yeast/malt complexity(along with the raisins), and highly drinkable for the ABV.

    Cheers

A beer I've wanted to try for some time, Mackaper by Omnipollo. Today's free Swedish lesson: Mackaper, or rather Mackapär, means gadget or contraption...

    7 months?!? :astonished:

What exactly did it taste like? Could you still tell it was Trillium? I should do experiments like this with Tired Hands.

I've kept notes as I've had the cans, and the biggest difference is that at 7 months it's less juicy and a bit more bitter. It was very clear that it was the same beer, but it sort of settles a bit. It was better fresh, but even at seven months, it still kicks the ass of most IPAs. DDH Congress is my favorite Trillium so far...

Picked up a four pack last night after work for this very occasion.

First baby of the season for me. Coffee is not hiding at all in these fresh bottles!

    Cheers all.

Uh-oh! @JamFuel is going to have 20 pages on his account alone at this rate!

I left early last night, seeing @LeperJim was being overserved, and his mentality (as evidenced by his doodle) wasn't in a good place. I feared for my safety just a little.

But that means I can be at it early today (though not often). Decided as an opener to share a little side-by-side fresh hops, since I first saw both yesterday at the store:

From experience, I know these beers are not that similar other than both using fresh hops. The Lagunitas is almost a dozen yesterdays old, Sierra Nevada got this beer into my hand in a month.

Born Yesterday comes to me as a new-school juicy up front, but still classic citrus and grapefruit pithy in the second half. A little vegetal note squeaks in the far back. Not a lot of noticeable influence from the malts to me (though see below).

Celebration does have a little of a toasted malt and perhaps just a hint of sweetness. The hops are more piney, with a little grapefruit accent, and their bitterness is perceived by me as considerably stronger. This has the effect of making this more bitter and less "sweet" overall.

Both of these have a quality about them that reminds you of the brewery - a certain brewery stamp that comes out to the palate. I'm not sure I could pick it out blind, but with each beer I find myself thinking, "Yep, that's a SN/Lags."

    Cheers!!

Ddh Congress is my favorite as well. Never had one last more than 6 weeks though. Too tempting to have one in my fridge.
