Good morning BA, have a great Sunday! Looking to be another nice day, a little chilly out. Regular normal day of errands for me. Bottle returns, laundry, and I need to finish up a work presentation for tomorrow morning. Will be making a quick melomel as well. I bought 6 lbs of frozen berries yesterday. They were on sale, BOGO. Good enough reason for me to ferment something new. I just kicked a keg earlier in the week.

    Beers this morning:

Amazing as always. Flavors of huge grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, and light pepper/pine hops; with wheat, white bread dough, light honey malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, grassy, citrus peel bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied; balanced bready/grainy wheat/oat creaminess and hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Slight resins and lightly increasing dryness, no hop astringency. Super dank and juicy hops, with perfect malt balance. Never overly sweet or heavy. Super easy drinking. Glad to have this as a year round available beer. I prefer Boxer more, but has not hit the shelf in a while. This and the Odd Side Dank juice series have been keeping me company since then. Newer batches are even creamier and less drying than earlier in the year. It just keeps getting better.

Always world class. Huge flavors of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, molasses, raisin, plum, bourbon, toasted oak, vanilla, coconut, and light chocolate. Balancing bourbon/oak spiciness against sweetness; lightly drying from tannins. Full bodied creamy/slick and slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Low alcohol warming on the finish for 12%, never boozy. The malt and barrel integration is amazing. This is basically a year round available offering for me on the shelf, and I keep grabbing more singles weekly(along with BBA Siberian). Prefer this over Backwoods, I revisited that review a couple months ago. Still love both and always keep them around. This seems to have more barrel influence over the malt, which is really the key difference.

Incredible! Flavors of big raisin, plum, fig, date, cherry, grapefruit, apricot, apple, orange peel, pine, caramel, maple, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, coconut, brown bread, and biscuit; with light notes of chocolate, coffee, smoke, and charred wood. Mild increasing booze in the aromas as it warms. Light-moderate pine/citrus peel bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; balanced bready creaminess, hop stickiness, and oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Slightly slick, silky, syrupy, and chalky. Light-moderate increasing bitter hop/tannic oak dryness. Never astringent. Pleasantly warming 14.3%, minimal barrel booze. For an American barleywine, this is perfectly executed. There is a fair share of bitter hops; but they are amazingly well balanced with the barrel tannins and creamy malts. This had a really impressive evolution in the glass as it warmed up. More hop flavors came through and balanced against the dark fruity character of the yeast. Never overly tannic or drying on the hops or barrels. Might grab another pack as they still sit around locally.

My last 2012. Still amazing after 5 years! Enormous flavors of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, molasses, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, raisin, plum, fig, cherry, date, leather, tobacco, licorice, and light coconut. Some bourbon/oak tannin spiciness balances the residual sweetness absolutely perfectly on the finish. Amazing balance between the malt, dark fruit, and bourbon barrel flavors. Full bodied creamy, silky, velvety, rich mouthfeel. Minimal warming 15%, zero barrel booze. This is by far the smoothest Bourbon county I have ever tasted. Personally cellared by me the whole time. Sublime experience. I only have a 2013 left. Will have to seek out this year again. I am not a fan of the larger bottle format though.

I am impressed with a few of the new beers RAR released yesterday. Their peach berliner weisse was very good. And this imperial stout in collab with Horus Aged Ales. Aged with coffee beans in 26 year Glenfiddich scotch barrels and damn tasty.

    Back to Belgium . . .

Darker shade or orange-gold color with white cap.

Aroma of bready malt and golden raisins with a distinctive hit of sharp hops.

Flavor is interesting and a bit puzzling. At first there's the rich, deep flavor of rich malt leaning toward caramel then just as the ripe fruit emerges we hit a hop wall of decided bitterness. At 10% ABV there's a lot in there and it's as if someone decided to toss in an extra bushel or so of hops just to make sure with the result being a flavor in favor of the hops. I can only guess which hop variety but at this level of use perhaps that doesn't matter. A complex brew that mostly works but the hop bitterness is like someone put too much cayenne pepper in the gumbo. The flavors compete rather than complement.

My first time on page one in a long time but much needed. We had a party last night, and even into my 40s my friends still know how to leave a mess. Throw in the fact we're supposed to get 3 plus inches of rain and 50 plus mph winds I had to go clean up and secure shit. I'm soaked!

This is as good as ever. The weather has cancelled everything so expect to see me at the virtual bar all day. Slainte!

This one-year old brewer calls this German IPA, which fits the style. It's one of the most exciting beers I have ever tasted out of 1000.

A: Hazy, opaque golden body that resolves into a cap and a bit of lace.
S: Orchard, fall fruits, ripening late season apples, hay, earth, fallen leaves, the sea, the fall beach.
T: On a Germanic, Munich malt backdrop rise all the flavors above via Bavarian hops... (Orchard, fall fruits, ripening late season apples, hay, earth, fallen leaves, the sea) resolving in a bitter, pungent, yeasty, cidery, drying finale.
F: Suitably bright and chalky. Clean, lean, cidery, cleansing finish. Great food beer.

I tried 8 of their beers in flights and settled on this one to take home with us. Great beer, great artisan brewer. Much to be said of a small batch, local, herbal, local ingredient, over infused craft brewer. A true confectioner, gardener and flower shop. Bravo.

Overall, this brewer packs its small batches with herbs, which are mostly native to Shelter Island, and seasonal. Fantastic tea-like brews to be found here along with good spirits, food, and craft.

Proud to be 2nd reviewer of this brew and this wonderful place.

    a) Best looking beer in my tulip in a long time. Big rocky head over a cloudy golden body with champagne like bubbles.
    s) As anticipated, fresh, yeasty, herbal, orchard, pear, apple. The financial ministers would be proud of this work.
    t) Large herbal and orchard flowershop upfront, against tempering dry grain and tartness. Earth cellar, musty, chalky and fertile yeast, herbs in the finish.
    f) Heaven. Clean, smooth and crisp. tickler.
    o) One of the best beers in the world.

Enjoyed the newest of the O-Dub series. 07712 = Asbury Park.
    a) Perfect sticky pour, lacing white spiderwebs over a persistent white head and a golden, clear body.
    s) Big dank resins and tropical fruit over a core malt base.
    t) Follows smell, Interesting see saw into dank, grassy, crisp finish.
    f) Med bodied and carbonation - good feel, leaves you in a great balanced place.

On Cask at the brewer, pleased to write brief review of this nutty, fecund, ample harvest ale.

    a) Lots of lace and stickage coat my glass as the golden, clear liquid draws down.

    s) spicy rye, bright hops, grassy and nutty texture.

    t) follows smell - with elite, bright, fresh grassy, nutty, piney hop notes prevailing over the malt pale base.

    f) Smooth, clean, good food beer. (I wish it was for sale - not so today on 10-28-17.)

    o) Compared well with today's 07712 and Shipwreck Porter - all great 4+ beers.
