That makes me sad, on the other hand I wont have to worry about a special release time after pre-gaming all night.

If you want to say hi, I'll be the dork with the little green charcoal grill cooking outside in October; we'll probably get there around 530. My name in the physical world is Mike.

I will be there with my girlfriend and my parents, just have to introduce them to Dave's awesome beers. Most likely wearing a Surly hoodie, since I am a fan boy. Not sure what time we will be there, might have a stop at Town Hall and/or Casanovas on the way.

You've pegged me wrong here. I've been at 4 out of the last 5 Darkness days sitting in line with everyone else (there has been 5, right? Damn some of them are hazy) I'm 100% behind the camaraderie and sharing of delicious rare beers. I'm more than happy to make instant friends with the people next to me in line. In fact just last year I brought a number of rare beers to share with my neighbors in line. Very good times were had by all.

What I am against, however, is when it changes from a fun gathering of beer geeks on a nice fall morning into an arms race of who can pitch a tent or park their obnoxious camper trailer first on Friday night. To me that just goes against the fun of it all. Sharing beers and meeting new friends in a relaxing setting is fun. Having to show up the night before just to claim a spot in line for the NEXT days festivities is pushing the envelope of reasonable.

Showing up early on a Saturday for a great day of beer related fun = reasonable. Having to sit around a cold empty industrial park all night just to get in on said festivities = stupid. I'm not against pre-gaming for Darkness Day. I'm against fighting for a spot in line with 2000 other dweebs who show up Friday at 5pm.

I agree with all your points, but let's hope we dweebs are not 2000 strong at 5pm Friday or this is certainly going be a shitshow for the books...

Agreed, but this is where the 'game' is headed.

I shudder to think of what Darkness Day is going to look like in 5 years. Though people jumped on StoutFest (or someone) for suggesting ticketing, unless Surly decides to make 5x more Darkness, there's going to be a breaking point where you'll have to be in line by 7PM on Friday to get your bottles. Nobody wants that.

I'm amused that human24 liked your post, too. Unless I'm mistaken, he's not only camped out for Great Taste tickets, but drove to Madison to do so.

Little late to the party on this, so apologies if this has been asked.

If there are no tents, does it seem logical that if you are in line enjoying the night before and slip off for some zzz's in the car that your space/chairs will be honored?

Beer karma often takes a beating when it comes to lines and special releases, but I hope you're right.
