Nah I think they have especially right off the line. Had a bunch of Trillium's recently that have a huge burn for the first 10 days.

It's basically just them doing their own test to see which hop format turns out "best". It's funny because usually you think of brewers doing these things on their own in a pilot test batch, deciding what they like best, and then producing the product in that way. It's like if you went to a restaurant and they said today we have roast chicken 4 ways - one using himalayan pink salt, one using kosher salt, one using sea salt, and one using all three. Which do you want?? All four varieties??

I definitely think OH is better than Trillium.

They've made a lot of changes this year alone with more beer, a bigger taproom, constant instagram updates, more weekday releases, and now they've set limits to the lowest all year on a big release.

I'm not sure what else you want them to do, or how you were hurt by their "PR" department.

It's not even a question. Far surpassed in my opinion.

I've been thinking the same thing as of late... More because I think OH's quality has improved so drastically over the past year or so vs. any sort of drop-off in Trillium's. In fact, based on the way the two breweries are perceived, I wonder if Trillium's involvement in this will draw as much 'hype/attention' as it did for Like Whoa or Street Green. People went crazy for the Potatoes release, but likely because of the tri-collab novelty and Monkish name vs. that of Trillium.

I have been DYING for a mixed 4-pack option from OH forever, and this release is particularly well-suited for such a sales model. That said, I understand the logistical nightmare that it'd be to put them together. The canning line can only operate on one beer at a time, and it'd be a huge pain to break the packaging pipeline of tanks --> cans --> 4-packs --> cases --> pallets smack in the middle. I have seen other breweries do it (Carton's release of Irregular Coffee variants, for instance), but I bet it was a major investment of time/labor.

I tried the cognac vanilla. I thought it was really good. Cognac forward with a nice smoky finish that was smoothed out by the vanilla. Glad I bought a bottle. Not the best BA stout ever, but worth the money IMHO.

Nice nice. I returned all my spare growlers yesterday. I don’t usually spring for OH stouts but cos it was “free” I got the vanilla one. “Honey I must have been the 10,000th customer or something. I won a growler of all infinity, a ba stout, and two crumpled $5 bills”

Beer muling is still a huge problem. Just because you’re doing a midweek release doesn’t justify a 1 case per person per beer limit.

I’m also not sure how you can include “constant Instagram updates” as some groundbreaking invention. They still block and delete comments from customers who share constructive criticism.

I love their beer, but I still think they can improve their operations to better serve their customer base and overall customer experience.

So who's going to do the math on how many people would be able to get beer this weekend, assuming each person purchases a full allotment and it's not a double batch. How many cases are typically in a non double batch? 250?

You still haven't suggested anything they could do better. I don't know what you suggest to get rid of mules when their goal is and should be to sell out by Sunday, and even then some of their best beer has lasted after the weekend.

Also, if someone is complaining on Instagram they're probably a troll

Can someone who actually knows something about brewing (like really - not like most of us who flick between couch brewer, lawyer, digital marketer, small business owner, etc depending on what the argument is that day) tell us what the difference is between those T variants? Like comparing DDH ACE - that has citra lupulin powder. But is the rest of the hop bill one of these two pellet varieties, or another kind, or whole hops, or a combo?

So, now everyone who offers constructive criticism is a troll? That’s ridiculous.

My suggestion is lower the limits across the board. They’re going to sell out of their canned beer regardless. It’s never been an issue and never will be. They’re not in a position to sell cases when they can’t supply demand in the first place.

Too much labor involved with that.

Since you're online now, someone needs to ask. Any double batches this weekend??

    No. Four single batches.

Disclaimer, I'm not a professional brewer but I am a big nerd for this sort of stuff. I don't know if we can say for sure whether they use T45 or T90 pellets since I'm pretty sure you can get your hop contracts fulfilled either way. T90 is the standard process though so I would lean towards that being what they normally use.

T45 pellets are basically more concentrated pellets they contain more hop oils by weight than T90 pellets, the advantages here are two fold, one you can add less mass to the beer which results in less loss due to absorption by the pellets and two you're adding less of the plant matter which can lead to astringency and vegetal off flavors in large quantities.
