Yeah would rather spend the $100 toward an allotment instead of some pours and merch. Plus figured FOBAB would cover most of the sampling of the variants so no point of sampling again.

It could actually not be infected. The Bourbon County Brand is synonymous with delicious top of the line beer (minus 2015 infectiongate). What if they just tasted it and thought, damn, this is not to our customer's standards. We would rather eat this cost than put something not up to par. I can respect that, and I think that is what happened there.

I saw Binny's tweeted today that they would be announcing the Black Friday details mid-November. That would point towards next week sometime, which is not much more than a week before Black Friday and about a week and a half later than last year. Even though I'm going anyway, I just want to know...especially since I feel that announcement probably has to come before other stores/bars find out what they are getting and what events they will have.

I would like to believe this theory but it is undercut by the existence of Regal Rye.

Personally I thought Regal Rye was perfectly good. However, I've talked to people who are absolutely convinced that no bottles of Prop '14 tasted strongly of coconut (they did) and that they were all cinnamon bombs (they weren't). So clearly individual bottle variation is pretty real with BCS variants (not to mention the standard "different palates" comment).

I've heard a few different times that Reserve BW suffered from inconsistency in the barrels used to aged the beer ... which keeps me holding out hope that they kegged some of the 'good' barrels and will release them someday at the taproom or special events

Coconut water has very little flavor so it must have been a bloodhound who picked coconut up in 2014 or perhaps someone who didn't understand they were drinking 2013. And they weren't all cinnamon bombs, they didn't have cinnamon in them. They were all cassia bark bombs!

Have I not mentioned before that I'm part of a family of bloodhounds? And that my wife is also a bloodhound (part of why we're married)?

Seriously though, I cracked a bottle of Prop '14 Black Friday of that year and commented how much more coconut I got from it than '13 (which is still my all-time favorite, but not because it was coconut forward). My wife and sister both had it and agreed. I have had multiple bottles since, and one tasted almost exclusively of cinnamon (so I finally got what people were talking about), but also had one afterwards that tasted more balanced. I hate coconut water (LOVE coconut flavor), so I get what you're saying, but...

Sure, here's my review posted on this site:

"Appearance -- it's a berry BCBS variant: looks very dark with some purple/red tinge at the edges.

Nose -- 90/10 sour/cherry, no barrel whatsoever and no hint this is a stout: complete absence of chocolate or roast.

Taste -- Call it what you want--"infected," "off," "shifted flavor profile"--this beer is bad. The taste offers a bit more than the nose but not much. Sourness predominates and I struggled to identify the slightest hint of chocolate, with sour cherry and maybe some salt on the finish. Roast, vanilla, caramel, oak and/or rye spice are all completely absent. The sour lingers.

Feel -- Not as thin as the bad bottled '15 BCBBW but significantly thinner than the usual BCBS mouthfeel. Not at all chewy or sticky.

Overall -- 2011 BCBS, my first ever, was the beer that got me hooked on craft. I started laughing to myself like a lunatic based on that first whiff. Since then BCBS and its variants have been by far my favorite line of beers. I feel compelled to give this, my first BA review, because of how disappointed I am in the 2015 lineup of BCBS bottles. Some have argued that Regal bottles are unaffected by whatever was wrong with the Barleywine and Coffee bottles--that the Regal bottles aren't off, this is just how the beer tastes. I'm not sure which is worse."

That sucks. I found myself pondering whether there could have been more fruit. I'm glad I didn't get the opposite end of the spectrum.

"Viscous black with almost no head--it displays as a thin mocha blanket at first, but fizzles out permanently.

Smell is rich and decadent fudge with oily, deep and heavy walnut. A faint salty sweetness creeps in the background, but really there isn't much of a hint of fruit on the nose. A bit of charred oak emerges as it warms.

Taste is chocolatey brownie speckled with raisin. Some blackberry sharpness cuts in with chocolate covered cherry. In fact, this tasted surprisingly like regular Dark Lord to both of us. Some wet walnut, hot oak and burnt vanilla sugar develop over time.

Thick and full-bodied, with a slight bit of cutting fizz.
    "

It's crazy the different experiences we all seem to be getting and reporting in this very thread, whereas before I used to consider this one of the most consistent BA stout brands in the game...

Yeah, I haven't had any bad experiences with Regal Rye either. I've had it quite a few times, and even though I'm not a big fan of fruit in my stout, I've come to like it quite a bit. Makes me wonder if I would've liked Bramble Rye had I drank it more as well - I didn't care for that when I had it on draft once.

I really disliked Regal when I had it shortly after release, easily my least favorite variant. Had it a year later and was really impressed. Time did good things to that one in my opinion (although if you loved it initially maybe it did bad things).

I really liked Regal fresh. Had it a few times aged and still enjoyed it but the pour I had back in June I could tell it was getting past its prime. The only problem is with only 2 years of age on it who knows if this beer has a reverse bell curve. Could it be good again in a year? I have one bottle left and have gone back and forth over whether or not I want to open it now or ride it out.
