Really? People in this thread comparing Prairie BA stouts to BCBS? Prairies barrel aged stouts are light years ahead of BCBS. Pirate Paradise was incredible, and bourbon paradise should be very good. Paradise is the perfect beer for a barrel, IMO.

Prairie's beers are well worth the price, and I like the 12 oz format, since I'm not forced to share them with someone, but can just open two bottles if I want to share.

While I am an admitted prairie fanboy, particularly for their Rum BA stouts, I also find BCBS excellent- in spite of infection/production issues and being owned by big-beer.

Yeah, to say it's lightyears ahead is completely absurd stretch, to say the least.. That being said, I did crack my only Okie Paradise last night and it was better than any Bourbon County not called Vanilla Rye I've ever had.. Must find more

This is a pretty ridiculous thing to say. You could argue that Prairie is on a similar level to BCBS beers (I've had almost every Prairie BA stout and every BCBS), which I would say is not true but I could see an argument for it. However, to say that Prairie's BA stouts are light years ahead of BCBS is just not true. You could say that in your opinion you feel that way and sure, that's fine, and taste is all subjective. But going by the aggregate rankings for these beers, there is no way you could empirically say Prairie is light years better.

Can't help but feel like the original posters bias is intrinsic to their location.

I see this in many subforums and specific threads. Jackie Os is great, but you won't find anyone that hypes JO like Ohioans in Ohio. Ain't no one hype BL like those Cali guys (might seem hard to believe, but check trade threads and you'll see "this ain't worth that...BL_random Stasis beer_01 is so much better." Seen this happen a lot with some Florida beers (JWB and Angry chair especially), and with Westbrook.

Why anyone touts evil twin is best is beyond me though.

When speaking about BCBS, I'm referring to regular Bourbon County Brand Stout. Sorry for any confusion.

So, Prairie is my favorite brewery in terms of stouts so I was pretty excited when I moved from Ohio to Oklahoma. I will not criticize people for buying expensive beers because sometimes I do so myself. But, even though I know it costs more to make stouts, especially to barrel age them, I think Prairie's prices have gotten absurd. I have been to my fare share of breweries, Bell's, Darkhorse, and Westbrook to name a few, and I have NEVER paid more money than at Prairie in Tulsa. It was actually absurd. Never have I paid more than 20 dollars a flight and if I'm correct I think my flight at Prairie was only 4 glasses. This is what really pissed me off though, Apricot Funk was available for 15 dollars a bottle. How? even in Ohio and Indiana I can pick it up for around 10 or even less sometimes. Hell, its even less here in Oklahoma. I don't understand why it is more expensive at the brewery when there was no shipping or distro costs involved. I know every business exists to make money but I feel like Prairie is much more greedier than most other breweries.

Don't get me wrong, I'm actually going to the brewery this weekend although I've been watching my money lately because I know it is going to be an expensive ordeal. I will probably also be at some of the releases too but just not getting as many bottles.

Why can't they be like Founders or Goose Island? They provide us with great BA stouts that are not insanely priced ( I know some people will probably not agree with that). I went to Dark Lord Day this year and the more I think about it Prairie's releases may cost more per Fl Oz but I haven't done the math.

Prairie can price however they want but at the end of the day it just shows their true colors. Some breweries care about making quality beer for the public and others want to make quality beer that many people will never try because it is too expensive so only a select few will. What is the point of making great beer if more than probably 50% of craft beer drinkers won't even try your stuff because its priced so high?

Like so many other people, you complain about the price, yet you continue to buy it. Prairies BA stouts don't sit on shelves in most all their markets, so why would they charge less?

Don't get me wrong, if we were talking about value BA stouts, fine, but relative to their peers that do the bomber only, I'll pay $10-13 all day long for a kickass 12oz in a bottle.

Why would you compare a beer like Pirate Paradise to regular Bourbon County regular
then? They are completely different things. They aren't even aged in the same type of barrel lol.

    Seriously

Regular BCBS and Prairie Noir are really the only two comparable brews.

And even that is a stretch because one is an oatmeal stout that's barrel aged and one is an imperial stout that's barrel aged.

Why wouldn't you compare barrel aged stouts to each other? That's specific enough for me.

Because some are aged in bourbon barrels (BCBS) and contain no adjuncts (BCBS) and some are aged in rum barrels (Pirate Paradise) and contain vanilla and coconut (Pirate Paradise) thus making is a completely different beer.

    Agreed.

If you are just comparing all stouts across the map, why not compare those to Vanilla Rye, Vanilla BCBS, backyard, Rare, Rare OG, Coffee BCBS (present and of years past), etc. etc.

Somehow got a pack of this yesterday. GA didn't get any regular BCBS this year because of our ABV cap, but this 15.9% monster snuck in. And judging from the Untappd check ins, it's one of the only states that has it so far. Not complaining.
