With the release of Canadian Breakfast Stout approaching, I’m curious to opinions on how many barrels of this stuff was made. At $25 a bomber suggested retail price, I have a feeling anyone who gets their hands on a bottle will be able to sell it for many many times more than what they paid for it. I do live an hour from the brewery and so I’ll have no problem getting my ticket this Saturday, however this is not the case for most. Is the hype real with this beer?

The hype is real, whether or not the what's in the bottle lives up to people's expectations remains to be seen. I bought a bottle in 2011 and found it too sweet for me. I'm on the fence on whether I'll buy a bomber of this year's, I really wish they would do 12oz as an option.

You do understand living an hr away from the brewery does not mean you wont have a problem getting a ticket. I live 7 mins away and will consider myself lucky as shit to get a ticket. People will be going insane to get a ticket.

No, just no... Don't start up with that capitalist neckbeard crap...

There is going to be plenty of bottles to go around and a lot of bars are going to have their shot at getting a keg (or kegs). Go ask your local distro rep and they'll tell you first hand. It shouldn't be difficult for anybody to at least get it on tap. Plus BA stouts with coffee and maple syrup aren't exactly uncommon anymore. Everybody that didn't already tick it, will, and then "poof" there goes that "unslayed whale" factor.

Please, don't feed the truckchasers or try to jumpstart the artificial hype bandwagon...

Seems like we have a few conflicting opinions on this. All I hope is that it’s easily accessible and then I’ll be able to judge. I’m more of a barleywine drinker but I’ll give this a shot.

How about buying a bottle and drinking it? Novel idea, I know.
In the sense the line between the two tin cans is shorter? How does your distance to the brewery have any impact with purchasing an online ticket?
Yes it is very hyped. Hundreds if not thousands of people who have come into craft beer the last few years never had this when it was last released in bottles and likely did not have a chance to have it on draft the limited number of times it has been available since then. CBS is one of those names in craft beer which carries considerable cachet. Now whether the beer lives up to the hype is quite another matter.

I'll just say this: KBS does nothing for me, and I find a lot of stouts severely overhyped. Despite those two things, and despite the fact that I don't love coffee on my stouts, I love this beer.

Worth the hype? Not sure. But it definitely lived up to the reviews I read here on BA.

It will be hyped but not to the extent most people think. There will simply be too much available.

I hope you are right. I had the great fortunate of stumbling ass backwards into Founders (the only time I've been there, 2 years ago) when they tapped both KBS and CBS as I sat at the bar. After 5 CBS 8-10oz pours, I can confidently say that is my favorite BA maple coffee stout (and best beer I've ever gotten drunk on). I sure hope to all hell to get my hands on it again and I will be going after it aggressively, bottles or on tap.

Agreed I hope they flood the market in all the distro regions with CBS on par with KBS distro that everyone that wants a bottle can get one to try it.

I tried to get a KBs ticket last year (2016). They sold out in like less than 10 seconds. Betw me and 2 buddies only one won. I will feel blessed to win a ticket.

Same experience here. Don’t much care for KBS. The pour i had of CBS a few years back? Magical. Here’s hoping this release stacks up.

Had KBS and CBS side by side once and preferred KBS.

    Decent beer, but vastly overrated.

You want a great maple BA beer? Track down a Lawson’s. Holy shit...

Maybe I'm just being a grump tonight, and I'm kinda surprised no one else has said something, so I will. Do we need a third thread on this? There's one in the Beer News & Releases forum, and a Founders Release thread in the GL forum too where CBS is being discussed regionally already. I mean, maybe if it was called "Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout Release 2017" I'd get it

Feel free to agree, or call me an arse. I've made my case.

I think you're low balling it. I would say tens of thousands or maybe even hundreds of thousands. The Facebook metro Detroit craft beer group has grown by thousands alone...

I agree with you. But yeah, CBS had become an almost mythical beer in its absence since it was last packaged way back when and now you have thousands of people wanting to trying it for the first time. This release is going to be interesting certainly.

The boards will be full of disappointed people because CBS has been hyped up as a mythical creature that can cure cancer. While that may have been the case in 2011 there are now a LOT of breweries making a version of CBS style stout & the difference in taste between CBS & those other stouts is a lot smaller than it was in 2011.
It's the same thing with Hopslam every year...people new to craft (or new to that beer) hype the shit out of it in their own minds giving it an unattainable level to reach so when the beer merely tastes as good or slightly better than the honey dipa from their local brewery they get disappointed & scream over hyped. When Hopslam & CBS were first created they set the bar as new styles (or at least new versions of a style) that almost no one else was doing. Now there are attempted CBS & Hopslam style clones all over the place with many being made by very good breweries so the level of taste from CBS vs Storm King in 2011 was massive while the difference in taste between 2017 CBS vs Insert Angry Chair/Bottle Logic/etc pastry stout name here will be drastically reduced.
Once you add that to the mythical hype of a beer that last saw significant bottling in 2011 and you have a recipe for a huge letdown.
Not to mention I worry a bit about bottle variance when using maple syrup barrels & bottling enough to reach 46 states of distro. That's a shit ton of barrels to bottle enough for that many states

I had it on tap at a black friday event a few years back. It was good but definitely didnt live up to the hype.

We'll see if it's as good as previous batches. I've been disappointed by the lack of barrel notes in this year's editions of KBS and BB. I wouldn't be all that surprised if Founders has given in to temptation and reduced the time these beers spend in barrels in order to get more BA product out.
