I'm new to the area and get black Friday off for the first time in a long time. Look for advice and the best way beer wise to spend the day. Does anyone do any special events ? Are there any liquor stores that are better choices than others. Open to all advice.

Ray J's Bar in NE is doing a BCBS vertical on black Friday, but I can't remember the time it starts. The sign for it said they'll have 14-17 BCBS, and 14 and 17 BCBS Coffee Variant.

Ok how about somewhere to get bottles ... Any stores do bottle releases ? Or is it just a crap shoot drive around when they open and hope for the best ?

BCBS should be fairly available. I was able to get some bottles at liquor stores at grocery stores no problem. The variants are going to be a bit more difficult to find.

In years past though there was a Goose Island sponsored event at a liquor store where you were essentially guaranteed all variants that were being sent to MN if you were one of the first - X in line. I remember also getting a bcbs glass and a bag of the coffee used in the bcbcs that year.

Grocery store in Minnesota can only sell 3.2 ABW beer. Are you talking about grocery stores elsewhere?

We crap shoot drove last year and were blanked out. Stood in line until opening and told nothing when they opened. Went to another store 3 minutes down the road that opened at the same time. Told all gone. Went back to that first store and told all gone.

Then we tried driving around and no luck. Completely blanked out. I suck as a truck chaser apparently.

We have considered flying down to KC, renting a car, and buying some of the copious amounts of cases they get there and driving it back up.

The standard will be very easy to get, the variants are going to require a homie hook up from an employee, dumb luck or truck chasing.

Many grocery stores in MN have attached liquor stores that sell full variety of beer, wine, and liquor.

Liquor stores connected to grocery stores like cub liquors? Can be good honey holes but once discovered get fished out quickly.......or become polluted when the store manager trys to sell Darkness for $25.99.....

I'm hunting with you then. Was near impossible to find the standard last year.

Pro tip- go to the stores you wouldn't otherwise, i.e. non beer focused liquor stores and you'll have no problem finding it. Especially outer metro area stores.

Please tell me this was a joke. It's only beer and should be easy to trade for if you get unlucky again.

Speaking for Saint Paul, I'd agree with this statement if by "very easy" you are talking about showing up within an hour of liquor store opening on Black Friday. Also agree with off the beaten path stores, I feel I get luckier the further East I go

Will MN be getting all the variants this year? I've seen posts about the Coffee, Barleywine and Northwoods but nothing about the Reserve Stout.

Chicago is the exact same distance.
The Reserve Stout is only available in Chicago and Kentucky.

And it's just beer. Relax, and enjoy the one in front of you.

I know. However, the OP is from Wisconsin, and could have been lead by your post to hunting BCBS at actual grocery stores. Although I'm sure that wasn't your intent.
