Update: I took the community's advice and sent the trader in question an additional message on Sunday about making the swap while I was still in LA and got crickets (there is a read receipt on here too from his side). That makes at a minimum 3 attempts to complete this trade from my side. Still have not heard a peep back from him since he sent me to the wrong residential address in Long Beach late night last Weds. I am now back home in NYC.

And more importantly, I have turned over all PMs and text message communication to @dmbforever for review that will fully corroborate everything I have set forth previously.

If there is no explanation for this, this goes way beyond bad trader, this is horrendous human being behavior. The more I think about this, the creepier this whole thing feels. There has been many screwed up situations on here before, this may beat them all.

I think potential BTs have been name-checked here for much less than what the OP went through. Now that we're at a 3rd separate opened-and-read PM without response, the bar has been cleared to call out the BT and at the very least demand an explanation.

I agree. I hate to jump the gun, but this type of behavior feels like it deserves a ban. This feels like a scene out of a made-for-tv movie before the BT has something nefarious done to OP.

    Creepy.

On that note - I always choose a public place.

While I know we are all chomping at the bit to reveal the trader in question, please give me an opportunity to read the conversations. I actually have another job besides being a voluntary moderator . I'll respond either later tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for your patience moving forward.

    Cheers!

Ok, but I already blew through Stranger Things and am caught up on Vice Principals. I'm gonna need to be entertained when I get home from work tonight.

It's a solid suggestion re: public places. To be honest though, I didn't look up the address before I put it into Waze and drove there. Probably should have, but I didn't. I assumed it was a public place to be honest. Definitely will mandate this in the future although to this point I've never had someone suggest a home address.

I am just shaking my head over reading this. I think too many of us are so concerned with the "Bad Trader" moniker and seeing a trade through we have lost touch with reality.
Really? After hours of getting the run around and being abused (for lack of a better word) you really think he should have given this jerk another chance?
It's terrible this happened to you but I am not sure how you could have even thought about trying to go through with this after what you were put through. At some point you have to realize he was just playing games. Do you even know where you were? What kind of neighborhood he sent you to? This guy could have sent you to some drug dealer's house for all you know. Either way after flashing your lights in some strange house's windows after midnight, your lucky something more serious did not happen.
This is not so crazy. I mean how many people would walk out to a strange car in their driveway flashing their lights in your living room window after midnight and calmly ask if they could help you? I would have called the police at that hour. It's entirely possible the guy came out because he knew exactly what you were there for so had nothing to fear.

Alright....Ive read through everything. Texts & convo on BA.

@pumpkinsmasher story is spot on..not that I thought different, because why in the world would someone make up the craziest and most ludicrous story about a trade gone bad.

Even I'm at a loss of words and am appalled at the circumstances of what took place.

@ayearetee Im not sure what you were thinking...but here's your one and only chance to explain to me and the community what transpired with the IP trade.

Read carefully, as there's gonna be a few stipulations:
    (1) you need to respond within 72hrs or your account will be done...no questions asked
    (2) if you come in this thread with any attitude your account will be done...no questions asked
    (3) I've been known to be wrong on occasion, so here's your chance to prove me wrong on what happened....remember Ive read all the messages

Note: you've been tagged as a bad trader

    Clocks ticking....

    Thanks Dave!

This guy was on 18 minutes ago, quite ironically viewing the IP trade forum. He also responded to an IP trade earlier today : https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/iso-lambic-ft-list.545520/#post-5727704.This guy knows what he did and has been on this forum and never responded to OP, I cant imagine there is anything he would say that would result in him not being banned. What he did goes way beyond someone stealing beer, as the story stands now it is incredibly creepy.

I understand the logic here. I really do.

But understand as well that I had packed beers in my suitcase that I was now going to have to transport home. It was basically dead weight in my suitcase that I couldn't use for anything. Now, I didn't think he deserved another chance, but I held the tiniest shred of hope that he might make it right and that I could return back home with what I came for.

It's not relevant at this point, anyway. He didn't communicate back nor did he make it right.

I also want to point out that @pumpkinsmasher handled this situation calmly, professionally, respectfully, and provided a factual story in this thread. He was nothing short of a class act. Never once did he lose his cool in any messages that were exchanged. A lot can be said of that.

Oh great, this BAD TRADER is moving to our city (from one of his trade posts)

    Hello All,

I'll be moving to NYC later this month, and I'll be looking to thin out my cellar. It's just not worth it for me to ship all of these bottles to New York, and I just don't have the space in my new apartment.

@jrnyc nice detective work btw. I gave the OP of that trade post a heads up on this BAD TRADER thread in case he didn't see the recently added red BAD TRADER banner.

@pumpkinsmasher are you in NYC too? Can you imagine if he becomes your neighbor?

My money is on an acting job. If somebody was shining a light through my apartment window at midnight and I went down and they said “I’m here to trade limited edition candy bars with you”, I wouldn’t say “I don’t trade limited edition candy bars and have no knowledge of this activity.” Instead i’d say “what the fuck are you talking about”

I wanted to like this, but this sounds a little too full metal jacket for me. :grimacing:I get the sentiment, though.

This whole situation has me shaking my head. I doubt @ayearetee shows up here to explain himself, even if tagged multiple times or he sees this thread. Just strikes me as too big of a coward to own up to what he did. He wasn't answering OPs texts, phone calls or BA messages, so I seriously doubt he shows up here with a whole crowd waiting for him. He's probably just wishing this all goes away somehow. And also, this has no chance of any kind of a positive resolution for OP. The beers weren't exchanged and the OP wasted time and cargo space trying to meet up with this deadbeat.

I'd say just go ahead and ban this guy. He put the OP in potential danger in an unfamiliar city. NO ONE should deal with individuals like that and Beer Advocate would be far better off without people like him.

It's funny. When I read the initial story, my first thought to was an acting job. But I thought that felt eerily like conspiracy theory territory. Now that I feel like we have a coalition, I feel much less crazy.

I understand also the necessity to "give him a chance to speak." I know we are all a bunch of beer nerds, but every "court" has it's obligation to give due process a chance. Everything is laid out pretty explicitly. If he says nothing (as I think we all expect will happen) - easy ban.
