I did it last year, but there's no way I'm waiting in line to pay $25-30 for Abraxas. I could just do The Cinnamon Challenge and save the time and money.

I say this as someone with no life that looks confused when someone says they have a beer budget.

I feel like you just crept inside my head with that post. I'll grab a bottle if I'm in the right place at the right time, but just not willing to go out of my way for this one. I remember being floored by how much I liked this a few years ago, but last year I noticed it just wasn't the same reaction for me. Perhaps my palate has changed.

They had 14 and 16 on tap at LP last year. The 14 had a lot of cinnamon, but was quite good overall. The 16 was virtually undrinkable to me. I don't know if it was the aging or if 14 was just balanced better.

I was there as well and also thought the 14 was better. I think 2014 was also the first year of it that I had a few years back.

Impractical for out of market releases like Abraxas and Ten Fidy. I think a balance of line-up vs. ticketed events is healthy. I think only ticketed events might be more profitable in the short term but I don't think it's good for growing interest in a beer/brewery. Obviously the Dark Lords of the world don't need their interest grown.

I called Downers Grove Binnys at noon, was gonna run over on lunch. But somehow they had already sold out between opening at 10 and when I called at noon, when the beer was delivered today. This is stupid. It's just Abraxas.

It's a really good beer but you're right that it's not worth losing sleep over. I think El Zacaton is on the level with it and that's been very available out of the taproom

So if you had been able to get a bottle at 12:15 or whenever you planned on going there, and they ran out soon after that, would it not have been stupid? You're the one calling about a very limited beer and trying to get over there on your lunch time to get a bottle. So it's stupid that other people also wanted it but were able to get it before you? Just wondering how long it has to last before it's not stupid.

I agree with @Nbrock24 that it's a really good beer but not worth sleeping over...but calling it stupid because they sold out before you were able to get there seems silly. Perhaps it's just frustration over not getting a bottle that you really wanted (which then leads to why others got over there quickly to pick up a bottle).

I got in line around 6:45pm and still got a bottle. Your math may have been a bit off or there were more bottles found.

I fully agree with this in general with beer bottle hunting overall. You have to expect to loose some of the time. As a hobby the time spent should be enjoying the hunt or drinking it.

However stores and breweries handle it; going expecting to walk out with your beer no hassle you will always be disapointed. Go in, grab a drink, enjoy the beers, find time for the ones you REALY want. Otherwise this hobby might not be for you.

Not sure I was in line by 6:45 but yeah, very well could have and just estimated wrong. They easily could have had more than 66 bottles some random guy said too. I came to try vanilla more than anything so at least got that

This is my feeling for just about 99% of beers. This is kind of what I was getting at in the other thread about waiting in line.
