Everyone realizes that the Tired Hands descriptions are self-aware and tongue-in-cheek, right?... it's no coincidence that you hear bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor on in the background in the garage some days.

That being said, I can see why people think that they aren't particular helpful, sometimes.

Not when it's paired with all of their other public communication/media which implies superiority. "Calling our original location a "brewpub" would be a gross overstatement of our brewery model." is literally the first thing you read on their website. (Although I noticed they finally deleted the dismissive cheeseburger comment when it became hypocritical).

If no one can tell your pretentiousness is tongue-in-cheek, then it has the same effect as being pretentious. Maybe they should charge up their magical crystals, fire up one of their sensory analysis glasses, and read some Flaubert: “There Is No Truth. There Is Only Perception.”

As a frequent critic, I would give actually them credit that their beer descriptions have improved in the past year or so. They have been more clear about things like fruit and hop rates/additions in quantitative terms.

I like the descriptions, some of the details are spot on and I look at the other parts as just having fun.

How long do these cans last for usually?

I got all three, and they're all really tasty.

Dug into a couple variants of Five Leaves Left last night and what I had I ranked in this order:
Idaho 7 > Galaxy > Citra. Something about the combination of Idaho 7 and honey just really did it for me.

I loved the Idaho 7 version. It was definitely my favorite of the series of the ones I had. I missed out on the Cascade. The one I looked forward to the most was the Citra but the candi syrup ruined it for me.

    Idaho 7 > Galaxy > Mosaic > Citra

Well, split them with the wife when I got back. Had a few at the Ferm too. To the poster above who didn't like the Citra/Candi Leaves, I had it on draft and it was actually the best thing I had last night. The combo was really interesting and different...thick and full flavored and not too sweet (I don't like super sweet).

To my palate I felt the sweetness overpowered any hop presence. Did you feel any of the other versions were sweeter to your palate?

I don't understand. Is listening to Godspeed You! Black Emperor tongue-in-cheek too? What would that even mean?

Personally I like the descriptions. They're meant to be evocative, not a checklist of flavors you will definitely taste. They're inherently ridiculous--ever read tasting notes for wine?

If you can't understand what they're getting at, try using your imagination a little. How many times can you read an IPA has notes of citrus and stonefruit?

The only other one I had was the Agave Syrup one, which was just kinda weird. Maybe the Candi Syrup one tasted better because it's had time to age -- when did you drink yours? Maybe it became more integrated over time...

I've drank one each week since release on a clear palate and didn't taste much of a difference just sweet overpowering hops. I mean don't get me wrong, it's still good just not my favorite of the four I tried.

The agave one I do not particularly like. I keep wishing I'd only gotten 1 4-pack of it and 3 of Are We OK?
