Agreed. Can't be a massive release like BCBS Black Friday as GI/InBev **NEED** retailers like Binnys, Jewel and Whole Foods to sell the core GI offerings throughout the year. Taking a money maker like BCBS Black Friday away from retailers will put a real damper on that relationship. But they could definitely pull off something smaller without major pushback from retailers.

A bears game does not last 24+ hours lol. You cannot drink in the binnys line regardless of people getting away with it, you cannot fire up a grill, ect. They are not even remotly close to one another.

They are also in the sun, which makes it feel warmer, rather than sitting in the middle of a city street at night.

And all bear fans get the same thing regardless of when they line up: disappointment. Can't say everyone gets the same thing lining up at Binny's LP on Black Friday.

Some Whole Foods information for 12/1: https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/service/chicagoland-bourbon-county-stout-release

Not a ton of info, unfortunately. 4 regular per person, 3 variants per person (if they have them). Seems unlikely we'll know prior who's getting what unless there's some direct intel from the stores themselves. Although they're getting out in front of that already with this line: "You may call the store with questions; however, team members will direct customers to this webpage to answer any and all questions about the release." Lincoln Park clearly the safest bet for highest allotment, you'd imagine.

Would be nice if they had CBS the same day. Two beers, one mule. Or however the saying goes.

What does that say about GI's line of beer if the only reason for selling GI's beer throughout the year is to get the reward of being able to sell a couple cases of BCBS one day?

I'll be honest...my buddy and I usually wait at a suburban Binnys...This is the first year we decided to do Lincoln Park. Like the previous BA comment, we get together after and share the line up and food....

Say what you will about the "idiots" in line....I line up because after spending all Thanksgiving day with my maniac children and my annoying in laws, the idea of waiting outside with my best friend for my favorite beer is absolutely wonderful.. Life is busy and getting a few extra hours of time to shoot the shit and just relax is really nice..it's been a tradition for us. Calling people idiots for waiting is silly..for some people it's more than just waiting.

Do you really want to be the guy who burns down Binny's with 1,000 angry neckbeards around you?

This is why Binny's needs to rope off the parking lot and make this an all night ticketed booze fest with food trucks and beer samples from all their vendors....

Okay, let's keep this going. Isn't it silly to call someone else silly for thinking people are idiots? Why feel the need to explain yourself? But thanks for keeping me entertained while flying home from Europe, where I drank Cantillon on tap and had the long wait for it to be poured and handed to me.

Carry on....and see y'all in line at LP next week :sunglasses:

There were plenty of people who had propane heaters inside and outside their tents!!!!!! And it gets really cold around 1-3am.

The permitting required for this, the security, plus whatever crazy noise ordinance (or whatever the aldermans can dream up) already makes my head explode. A great idea, but I can't even imagine the amount of hoops GI/Binnys would have to run thru to even attempt to pull this off.

    1) I'm not comparing a Bears game, I'm comparing a Bears tailgate.
    2) I'm not comparing the Bears tailgate to people who spend a whole day. There's something like 5 or 10 people wait 24+ hours. While that's interesting in a train-wreck kind of way, that's a small number and I can't pretend to guess at why people are willing to spend their entire Thanksgiving there.

A much larger # of people get there sometime after Thanksgiving dinner is over and the rest of their family is asleep, and spend 9 to 12 hours in line. I've been once, and it kind of reminds me of a tailgate. I don't care if the rules say people can't drink beer. They do, and it's not all that discreet (though relatively civil as far as clean up). They set up tents and walk around talking to other people close in line that are excited about BCBS.

Anyways, if you don't like my analogy, it's just an analogy. My overall point is that you narrowed down people's decision wait in line to optimizing their allotment of beer. It's not only that, it's also that people like to go to an event, and this is an event to some people.

There are people to hire to take care of this. Not sure how this would be any different than any of the hundreds or thousands of events that already exist throughout the city that include a roped off area and alcohol.

If they don't already have some sort of permitting with the city for this release, they're likely getting a pretty big pass by authorities due to all the other crazy shopping shit going on on Black Friday.

I saw people bottle sharing at Benthic which used to be something that didn't really happen openly at Half Acre. I think the Chicagoland beer community is out of f*** to give apparently

If it was ticketed, there'd be no need to line up overnight.
