A local liquor chain has some stores that have refrigerated shelves holding singles for mixed-sixes, or just as singles. The problem is that they are in those can-at-a-time rack rows - and they randomly populate it, so you can't easily select what you want. Most folks want to throw together a mixed-six of beers they want, not just randomly pick what's at the front. Other stores in the chain have thought it through and have singles in rows of like beers on open cooler shelves.

The guy going off about what's appropriate/inappropriate to bring to a bottle share. Its been a long time since I've done one but last time I provided 4 bombers and one or 2 people brought 1 each. They were 7 of us. We drank all of em & enjoyed it.

So what word should I use when I have all the bottles from 2000-2017 of Sierra Nevada Bigfoot? It refers to the year made and is appropriate when you have the same beer from different years, dude. And beer is an agricultural product, barley and hops have seasonal changes. And take Allagash ( and many others) that rely on the natural yeast blowing in the wind. Pot meet kettle.

I’d just say 2017 Bigfoot. Instead of “2017 vintage of Bigfoot”

I never said my argument was sound, and it does make me look like an asshole haha. It’s just my own pet peeve for whatever reason.

The word “vintage” is synonymous with “growing season” to me. It’s definitely applicable to hops themselves. Beer, not so much to me.

Yes, my lessons learned, that's what I started doing (I mentioned a few oz's but same strategy/meaning).

I've tried to have discussion on this in the past, but there seems to be scant information regarding IBU tasting limits. The old 'common knowledge' was roughly 100 IBU, but there was no context to that. Most people don't actively seek out varied nuances in highly bittered substances, and so I've always wondered if this was even an applicable metric for IPA taste. So few people (comparatively) ever taste 80-90 IBU beers that their palates would be muddled trying to discern differing high IBU beers. An experienced craft taster would likely have a more experienced palate; who's to say that they would not be able to discern past that 80-85 "limit"? Been genuinely curious about this for a long time.

If you have other info on this talk I'd (and I'm sure others) would love to hear it. Maybe in another thread?

When people post on this site that, "This year's 'beer x' isn't as good as it used to be. There are so many better options out there. I am buying those instead. 'Beer X' is overhyped."

Enlighten us, what are the better options?

My new pet peeve is that everything is now Barrel Aged. The way this is going we will be seeing BA Corona for $15 a bottle.
Seriously, it is sort of killing the fun of limited supply and enjoyment BA is as common as Miller Light now.

Yes! This bugs me. If you say you have better options, offer up alternatives. Otherwise, I assume you're pulling words out of your ass just to dis on a beer/brewery/in-ability to get a beer (the last one bothers me too, don't worry).

I know, even our coffee is barrel aged

But I do like that we have more BA options. I just wish all the regular options would stop disappearing to make room for their BA siblings. Then again, I don't make near enough money to be able to try even close to all the BBA beer options out there, let alone all the BA beers.

Don't get me wrong, I love BA beers. Just seems like they are becoming so common and like you said the cost is crazy. Used to be a handful I looked for and it was a treat when they hit, etc. Now almost daily my local stores are tossing new BA items on the shelve at 12-25 bucks a pop depending on size and a who. I guess the saturation is so great now it lost some luster.

No, I get your point, just being a little sarcastic. There are a few BA beers I want to try, but continue to walk past due to cost and favoring old favorites. I find it hard to believe that breweries can continue to churn out $12-$25 bombers and they sell well enough to warrant their production, but I suppose we're seeing them produced, so there is a demand.

And it doesn't necessarily make the beer better. But barrels are cheap and you can charge WAY more for the BBA version, so . . . .
