That’s the drive-up window for Long Islanders only.

Is it selling out of the taproom or the garage close to Garnett?

There really is a line that is reaching Garnet as of now.

We just can’t have nice things.

Economist Refael Hassin has proposed a rather novel line elimination tactic that I'd love to see applied to some of these OH lines. Basically, it turns the first-come-first-serve model on its head. Instead of sending newcomers to the back of the line, you send them to the front, thereby de-incentivizing early arrival and, in fact, eliminating the benefit of waiting in the line at all. For every second that you're waiting in that line, you're risking not ever being able to buy beer, as someone else could come at any moment and push you further back.

Obviously, the actual implementation of this tactic would be extremely difficult. For one, you have to prevent people from constantly leaving and coming back to the front of the line (you can imagine some sort of infinite loop of people from the front to the back of the line). But I do think it would be hysterical to see some reactions to an announcement of such a policy.

are folks really surprised there was a line for a weekday release 2 days before thanksgiving?

In line now. At corner of smith and Garnett. Honestly, the green power release line was longer at this point. Not bad for pre thanksgiving stocking up.

A pic of the pallets or a case estimate would be lovely once you get to the front

Slippery slope. I think you either are pro lining up or against it. I don’t think someone can say “I line up for one hour which is fine. Three hours is mental”

Also, not to harp on the topic of secondary markets once again, but the unfortunate reality is that until supply and demand align, the existence of a secondary market is simply unavoidable. I agree with you @jrnyc that it's a sucky aspect of this subculture, and I also agree that the spirit of reselling is often (though not always) more profit-driven and individualistic than that of beer trading. (To clarify my qualification, I know plenty of people who trade beer to "win" valuation swaps and many resellers who just want to help buddies out and get compensated for gas + tolls in exchange.) If there are enough individuals who deem it worth their time to wait for hours on a line to buy OH beer (whether for personal consumption or reselling), you're much better off buying beer from one of the many outstanding breweries in NYC for which supply and demand are closer to equilibrium! You should rarely, if ever, wait on a line to buy Interboro, LICBP or Greenpoint cans!

I once shared the same crusading attitude that you've expressed, but I've since come to the conclusion that railing against the line culture, infinite hype loops, secondary market intrusion, <insert_beer_pet_peeve_here> just isn't worth it! You'll have a lot more fun with this hobby if you just move on and stop worrying about FOMO--I promise!

Forgive me for beating a dead horse but I blame the buyers just as much as the re-sellers. But how do u stop it? Go after the pimp or go after the john? I figure if some idiot wants to tick a beer and pay double for a 4-pack then why not. “A fool and his money are soon parted”.

Interesting idea, but of course it's implausible given the reasons you listed, plus it's antithetical with a commonly held sense of line fairness. Ultimately, it seems the best way to get rid of the lines is to set a stricter limit per person.

Meh, sounds like a Fallacy of the Beer(d)

Basically no line now, maybe 20 people. Good thing people got there 3 hours early to avoid that

I might be the wrong guy to ask as I usually get there at around 6 on saturdays to make sure i am back home at a reasonable time. My assumption is 8 would be safe but some of the other peoples in here may have a better idea on the best time.

Their IG said at 4:00 that the DMD is done, is that not accurate?

It's true sold out DMD and 30 cases only of Flow. There's no way either were a "normal" run of a single batch to yield 160 cases. NO way.

WAY. Most of that line is buying full cases, if not more. (See last 3 pages about people reselling beer.)
