my black friday highlight was stumbling into some russian river sours on the shelf in portland. is this commonplace now? consecration was bottled in 2016 so can't tell if they were holding them or what.

Maybe they were pre-aging them for customers? This is a common practice at Total Wine, especially when it comes to IPAs. (Pro tip: Bring your duster.)

Tequila barrel abyss isn't as super terrible as I thought it would be.

(I see this thread has gone pretty far afield, heh...)

These kinds of places can be a double-edged sword, though...when they unintentionally "pre-age" a beer that's actually worth aging simply because they don't know what they have, even if it's not perfect cellar conditions, randomly running across a year+ old bottle of something you've been seeking with no markup beyond MSRP (again, because they don't know what they have) is like finding buried treasure.

I really want to try this.

Malt & Vine put out bottles of 2008 BCBS yesterday. The beer isn't anywhere near good enough for the $45 a bottle they were asking, but that may have been my last chance to buy it guilt-free. Oh well, back to my boycott.

There are enough exceptional breweries that have maintained their independence that I don't have to worry about running out of beer. I may buy a Red Hook someday though for old-times sake. Ya Sure Ya Betcha

Stopped in Johns Market on Thanksgiving morning and they had 2015/16 BCBS and the purple rye variant in bottles for sale. also the Barleywine (which i think is infected).

stared at the bottles for a few minutes and then walked away. All i could think about was overrated infected beer and how I hate the new bottle format

That's surprisingly the only place in Salem I have seen it, although admittedly I haven't been looking for it. They didn't get any variants either, so I doubt anywhere in town did.

Was really surprised to find some at Winco earlier today, for $8.99 a bottle, no less.
