Ok, still morning as I poured this beer, at least. This is the one @Roguer reviewed earlier, and we're (well, I'm) reliving the past where we used to have NBS offerings within a week of each other. Bell's Aribicadabra is a coffee milk stout, and was one I was going to try to jam into the theme at one point, because the guy has a mildy, somewhat, maybe if you squint, kinda devilish look to him :disappointed
    [IMG]

Let's see how our reviews match up:
First off, a nice, though light aroma of fresh brewed coffee reached my nose as I poured this beer. But more on that sense in a second

Definitely dark - so I'd say the color of a dark roast coffee, which I might guess @Roguer enjoys more. My head I'd classify as light tan - though this might be a description bias more than color difference. My head was lasting, but not completely covering - with some interestingly circular spots of lacing.

Agree the coffee is dominant, but in a nice way. Deep roast with just a hint of mocha cream. Not getting any grapes, really a straightforward coffee, with a moderate amount of perhaps chocolate cream.

I'd almost wholeheartedly agree with this. The cream comes out thickly in the end, but that end comes fairly quick after a potent punch off dark roast coffee. The bold flavors didn't cling too long, but a light coffeehouse note (coffee + cigarette) lingers after about half the beer is consumed.

I might appreciate the lighter aspect of this brew a little more for my tastes than my fellow NBSer. Agree this is a good coffee replacement for the beer geek who'd rather have a different type of brewed beverage in the AM.

I once had a Budweiser and Clamato Chelada. It was worse than Hell. It was the last beer in the fridge at 2 AM. I had bad dreams. I brushed my teeth three times in a row. Altoids didn't even help.

THAT was a fantastic set of reviews. Well done!

On that note: I definitely noticed you'd reviewed some of my Thanksgiving weekend brews within the last week or so (of note: my first Aslin). I've got plenty of other brews lined up for today, so we'll see if serendipity continues to be the norm.

Steamboat ipa,gold/orange color with decent amount of carbonation. Typical citrus, pine, aroma but also malt and grain. Taste was identical to aroma but the citrus and pine weren't too strong and the malt came through fairly strong.. this isn't a hop bomb which most won't like but it was what made it appealing to me. Overall I gave it 3,75,probably a bit generous[IMG]

Happy NBS! I have had a nice 4 days of relaxing and spending time with my family. The WI football team even managed to win every game and make it to 12-0 for the first time in history. in 1912 the team went 7-0. Looking forward to a win against OSU next week.

Snakes with Lasers seem appropriate for today's NBS 666.

This 3 Floyds LazerSnake IPA pours a cloudy golden yellow with a 2 finger frothy white head that leaves plenty of webbed lacing on my glass. Aroma is quite floral with orange blossom, lemon peel, and a bit of wet grass. Flavor is unique and has an orange peel quality along with some lemon zest. There is a bit of honey cracker like malt with a finish that is not very bitter and grassy. Feel is light and refreshing with soft carbonation. A good IPA that almost seems like an IPL.

Reverse from Barrier. Pours a slightly hazy deep golden color with a very fluffy inch and a half white head that left lacing all the way down the glass. Smell and taste are slightly muted to me with mild citrus, floral notes, herbal elements and a hint of spice and pine. Medium bodied, well carbonated, minimal bitterness and a slightly dry finish. More an APA than an IPA IMO.

Friendly Aviator Pilsner by Aero Plains Brewing, Wichita, Kansas

Okay, so life is about balance. For every Evil Dead beer there has to be a Friendly Aviator, right? No? Okay, well the truth is I need to review this new single bottle so I may as well do it here.

    3.23/5 rDev -7.7%
    look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 3 | overall: 3.25

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

The beer is opaque burnt yellow with a very pristine, white meringue head that leaves nice lines of foamy lacing.

The aroma is lemongrass, light citrus, and banana.

Taste has notes of dry lemongrass, lime zest, cloves, bananas, and orange peel.

Mouthfeel is light to medium and dry.

Overall, a lot of flavors going all over the place, but very astringent and harsh on the palate.

That’s it for today. I had a couple of mediocre new beers but oh well. Not sure what next weekend holds, but I’m trying to get to 1,300 reviews before New Years so I’ll need to drink 4 new beers a week until then. In other words, see you next weekend!

I have two themed beers for today's thread. Beer one is just a warm up. It would be great if I was drinking this beer:

... but I'm not... because that wouldn't be a new beer for me. Instead, I'm drinking this:

    Robinsons Trooper Hallowed

Yet another Iron Maiden beer on the shelves. What does it take to actually get new bottles of British beer in the US? Apparently Eddie on the label. No offense to Bruce Dickinson, but the situation is pathetic. I can’t blame Robinsons for milking this partnership for everything that they can get out of it. I always buy whatever new bottles of British beer come here... but that means that I'm not buying much in that department.

This beer is supposed to be a British/Belgian hybrid. It's classified here as a Belgian dark ale. I guess that works. I'd be curious to have this beer alongside a dubbel, but that's not gonna happen. To me, this beer felt far more British in character despite the Belgian yeast. This means that either:

    - the signature of the makers couldn't be repressed
    - I'm being influenced by the packaging
    - I'm misattributing qualities of certain beers to certain ingredients

    I don’t know.

This beer was incredibly fruity. It tasted of banana candy and out of season raspberries. Caramel and some hoppy bitterness in the back. Rye too, but I’m only noticing it because it mentioned it on the label. It was thin and very drinkable. The marketing speak on the label about it being blood red is a big exaggeration. This was a very pleasant beer.

For this thread, I had to watch this video as a warm up to drinking the beer. This song might as well be the theme song to this thread.

This beer was just the appetizer. I hope to be back later today with the main course.

Welcome. Glad you enjoy our revelry of beer. Enjoy your contributions to WBAYDN, and please feel free to join in here on occasion to cut your teeth on reviewing. We especially promote actual reviews on beers that are lacking at least a couple opinions. Cheers!

I sem to recall finding that beer had a nice strawberry flvaor to it, but was far from the feel of a "milkshake beer," per my limited experience.

As self-proclaimed official math checker here on BA, let me check that (we also just watched Hidden Figures)...

    Yep, that'd check out.

    ----

Ok, we're not getting to 666 posts today, but do you think we'll end up with the sixth post on page six which is six words long????

My first "Milkshake Beer" so I really have nothing to compare it to. However as the name implies I would expect a thicker, more creamy mouth feel.

New beer #2. The Sierra Nevada Fresh Hop pack finally, FINALLY dropped here, so going through all 3 of the new ones today. $23.99 for the 12 pack. More expensive than anywhere else, but less per beer than anything else in my fridge.

Sierra Nevada - Fresh Hop Session IPA
    4.8% abv
    Canned 10/13/17 (44 days ago)
    Score: 3.61 (-8.6% rDev)

L - 3-finger dense white head sticks around forever. Just like Celebration! Body is translucent yellow. Lager-ish in appearance.

S - Bready malt. Spicy hop.

T - Spicy hop at first. Bready malt hits next. Corn. Fairly bitter.

F - light body. High carb.

O - I'm unclear as to the effect of the fresh hops here. Reminds me of pretty much every other session ipa I've tried. Light body with muted taste and smell. A perfect beer to grab when your taste buds are shot but you still want another.

NBS! 666! I forgot before I opened the thread the milestone if you can call it that. I'll see if I can find one in the cellar that matches. In the meantime this is what I had opened
    [IMG]
I will admit I am in the camp that prefers the non-BA version of this beer to another very popular Christmas Ale from this neck of the woods. It would be interesting to compare the BA versions.
I was a little nervous about this one to get started - it poured with no head at all, and the oak/honey dominated the nose. One sip put any worries aside as the palate is very balanced with all of the plums, brown sugar and baking spice one enjoys from a winter warmer along with a nice complexity the oak adds. Overall balanced, a touch sweet, unfortunately the alcohol is not on the label (the original is 8.3, not sure if this is higher). All being said, I enjoyed trying this and would recommend it, though at 3x the price of the regular not sure I'd be in a rush to buy it again and am glad I found it as a single rather than a 4-pack.
    Cheers!
