Secondary buyers are the problem, from raffle participants to the people spending 200+ on a single bottle. Greed will never go away, but enabling the greed can be stopped(pipe dream, I know).

Massive pipe dream for sure. With so many craft beer lovers crossing over into mead & bourbon as well I only see it getting worse. Raffles/auctions are a staple in the Mead & Bourbon groups so the more beer people cross over (& vice versa) the more normalized those will become

    My thoughts for improvement.
    1. Distribute only regular BCBS to stores.
    2. Ticket/lottery? To purchase a 1 set of all variants to be picked up at the brewery or other selected site between the Monday after thanksgiving through the following Sunday.

This would eliminate or reduce the lines on BF because no stores would be receiving variants. It would reward Chicago area BA as more variants would be available for local ticket release and the pickup being after the holiday weekend would reduce people coming from out of town.

    So...
    1. Reduces eleminate lines
    2. Chicago/local focus
    3. ?????
    4. Profit

Not accurate, they do sell playoff tickets via a lineup. Season tickets get first dibs, then lottery then they also save some for day of. And people were lining up for well over 24 hours for a chance at World Series tickets last year. No tents though - the police regulated that way more than they do for Binnys. And most of the people interviewed by the news were freely admitting they planned to sell their tickets.

Nothing will change unless it comes from Binny’s. Binny’s (and other stores) essentially house the Black Friday event so Goose Island does not have to deal with the bs. ... Meanwhile, just as many or more will line up next year for the same or more chaos.

Right the issue is any line management that far in advance requires making people work Thanksgiving Day, and then overnight. To avoid that they could say "Line starts at 6:00am Friday, anyone entering the property before that will be asked to leave the property."

The issue with this is people will find a places to line up just off the property and then rush the gates at 6am. Unless you have Chicago Police handing out loitering tickets to everyone all night.

This was the line jump at Binny's LP, right? The person who was #588 eventually became #2300?

Allocation of variants is the problem.

Binny's created the problem this year when they increased the amount of variants that you could purchase in LP from 2 in 2016 to 6 this year (I'm not including BW). This drove everyone to LP.

Jewel also added to the madness by answering questions as to what each stores allocations would be.

Combination Lottery. 1/2 Tickets through local signup at the brewery and 1/2 the tickets through online lottery. Just like how Perennial and SP do it.

Other ideas...How about a club like they do at other breweries? Charge $100/year membership fee for chance to purchase a set allotment. How would that dynamic change things? So many breweries do it today...

It's the 21st century- if GI does the local lottery route they don't even have to have people come to pick them up. They can just contract with a service like Caviar to have everything delivered and build it into the package price of the set.

A chance or a guaranteed allotment? If it is guaranteed, those memberships would sell out in a second.

It would have to be guaranteed that you have the right to purchase x beers. If $100 is too low, how about $250? :grimacing:

I'd prefer line, I just never trust lotteries....maybe because I never win.

Selfishly, I'd love to see a lottery/online ticket sales for all major releases as I'm not one to stand in long lines for beer.

    Lottery.

I'm very unlikely to wait more than 2-2.5 hours for a beer, so I'm likely never going to secure a rare bottle like Prop.

Never lottery... BPT or Eventbrite are the best releases imo
