Crossing the US borders is fine, couple of questions, sometimes they are really not cool but well that's their job! Crossing back in Quebec, Canada with US beers is very pricy, we actually need to pay something like 18% taxes and 1$ per liters for a maximum of 8.5Liters if you stay for less than 48hours, if you extend for more than 48 hours, you get a 8.5 liters tax free and you can add an extra 9 liters which you'll have to pay the taxes.
So going to the US and buy beers is quite expensive, dollars conversion plus that huge tax :slight_frown:

The limit is based by province legislations, in Ontario you can cross with 45liters instead of 8.5liters in Quebec.

This should not be. The border between America and Canada ought to be agreeable, coming and going. Americans these days are suspicious of everyone. Those taxes seem way too extreme..

Have not done it for maybe 10 yrs but we used to do fly-in fishing in N Ontario and always brought all we wanted to. Sometimes one paid duty and sometimes not. Still way better than buying beer there. May have changed though

I recall reading/hearing about a guy that got busted for not declaring the new tires on his car when they spotted the stickers still on the tires.

Not much help on the budget thing as we have never budgeted. But we have always lived beneath our means. Anyway, I spend whatever I want on beer. It would be hard to put a weekly number on it because I may go weeks without buying anything and then spend a few hundred at one time.

I'm retired now and my kids are grown and we just don't keep up with what we spend. When I was younger we paid the bills, put money into savings and retirement funds, had a csh emergency fund and bought what we wanted, within reason, with what was left over.

Budget? Drink better , drink less? Factor in red wine, some whiskey, bikes. Also my better half like the hoppy stuff too. Cheaper than therapy, twice as fun?

We fall into the no hard budget camp, but are at least aware of what we spend generally. It's easier with one kid out of the house and one paying at least minimal rent. We don't drink big volumes, maybe 3 - 4 a week between the two of us and that would be a "big" week. What we end up doing could maybe be called "binge spends" where we buy a lot of beer but pretty infrequently - maybe every month or two. Even then we're generally talking $40 - $60 total. I can recall an $80-ish spend once time. Maybe there is a subliminal limit when things get around the fifty buck mark. We buy what we like, but also seek new brews regularly. Nice mixture of the "tried and true" with plenty of new adventures sprinkled in, I think.

We tend to accumulate faster than we consume and we need to think about that a little. I think it has been luck that most of what sits around in the house remains drinkable, if not exactly in peak condition. When we start opening beer that's obviously aged beyond all recognition, then it would be wasteful.

About every other week I buy beer ($30-ish)
Every other Friday at the shithole bar by work ($20-ish)
During football season 12-pack of Bud Light on Sunday ($10)

don't have a budget...pretty much depends on when things i'm interested in are available and when i'm offered things that others have picked out out of town so it can vary

i try to refrain a bit buy maybe buying or acquiring a 4 or 6 pack and offer that to others in an effort to keep my costs down and not have too much to fit in my beer fridge

I probably spend about $40 every other week on a couple 4 packs from Other Half/LIC Beer Project/Greenpoint/etc., which wouldn't be so bad, but I also love the after work beer at a bar, which here in Manhattan can adds another $10 a pop. Yea, that adds up.

Fortunately I don't have to budget but still refuse to pay more than I think something is worth.

Ehhh I just wing it most of the time. I'm not going to pay bill money for beer, it comes out of my "running around funds"

I bring home growlers from work and try to homebrew most of my everyday/session beer. Doesn't always work, but that's what I try to do.

Don't really have a strict budget because I don't drink that much per week (4-7 beers, usually Thurs-Sun). Also, the amount I purchase is based as much around my very limited beer storage space as it is money. I usually stock up with enough beer to fit that space, and that amount lasts me for 2-3 months, costing in the $100-200 range. I usually don't buy any more until my stock is depleted, with only an occasional small, supplemental purchase before then. Averages out to <$15/wk.
