The Half-Acre thread (2018)

I like the concept of the Whole Enchilada, but pass on it myself for 2 reasons:

1) I don't find Big Hugs to be anything particularly special, so would be a complete asshole if I purchased 8x 16 oz. cans of it.

2) I'd love the variants, but even then, 3x of each bottle is a little much, given all the other stupid purchases I make during Stout Season (especially given how slowly I drink the shit I hoard).

With BA Big Hugs hitting distro (haven't heard if vanilla is), and the Whole Enchilada being 2x as big as last year (per HA's IG), I'm wondering if this stuff will actually be around for an hour or two on Sunday, as opposed to basically gone as soon as the line is over. I always assume the worst with HA releases, but they really seem to have significantly increased production of their "holiday"/BA beers.

 

I'm sure more are getting released as people don't check out.

 

Variants were gone unless you were in line long before open last year ... hence I bit the bullet on the enchilada this year. Of course I’ll find out on Sunday if I made the right decision ... very curious on how much there is available

 

Yeah, I don't even really bother with BH as a result. I'm not willing to wait in line before open on a Sunday (I like to stay up and drink on the weekends, and my body does not handle copious liquor + little sleep), and by the time I've swung by in the past, everything is long gone.

I'll probably be there an hour or two after open to see if there's anything left. Otherwise I'll just stalk Binny's.

Enchilada was tempting, but screw it. I’ll just go drink some on tap on Sunday and be done with it.

 

I’m just going to the tap room at 11:00 and drinking variants. Then see were the day takes me. Maybe jump in line if it’s short enough. I would love some of that Big Hugs coffee though.

 

Had 2016 BA Big Hugs the other day. It was fine but not worth the hassle. To be fair, 2017 may be much better (and I did have an aged coffee stout) as Half Acre seems to be dialing in their BA beers now. Still, it’s just been such an expensive month....

 

I pulled the trigger on the enchilada for the 2nd year in the row - splitting it 3 ways this year.

Bought for the sole reason that I really don't want to line up for awhile, you guys.

 

That's a perfect use case for the Whole Enchilada - sharing and avoiding lines. Enjoy!

 

Wish they hadn’t scrapped the salted espresso variant. That made passing on this year a bit easier

Are they expecting all of the beers to be on draft at the Balmoral draft room? I may just hop there to try the beers since I am not going to be in chicago until 1 pm.
