It's fun to find and try some of the limited releases but I won't go out of my way for them. There's too much good beer to be upset about missing out on stuff.

I like Bourbon County but to me it's not worth the hassle of running around on Black Friday for it, so I just assumed I wouldn't be getting any this year. Then, I was at a store on Wednesday and saw they had some, so I picked up a bottle. During that same trip, I bought Ommegang's 20th Anniversary pack which has 3 barrel aged beers and a glass. I'm glad I found the Bourbon County but I'm much more excited for the Ommegangs.

When I go to the store this week, I'll ask about CBS. If they have it great, if not no biggie.

I was going to write a long post about my experiences concerning the 'hunt' - but it kinda boils down to 'fuckdatshit'....

I saw CBS for $38 and gave up instantly. I don't chase things much anymore, though. There is way too much great beer that is easy to get for not-ridiculous amounts of money.

I don’t have the time, finances, or desire to try and chase down beers. If I stumble on something, great. Otherwise, I happily enjoy whatever is fresh and available.

I stopped at Wegmens at 7 am on my way to work and scored 2 CBS bottles. They started it at 7 and I was gone at 7:15. Well worth the work.

It's not work if you find out when and where they release.

I certainly wouldn't want to drive across the country and camp out in line for six hours to try a beer, but CBS was pretty easy to obtain. No hunting involved. At least four stores within a 30 minute drive of me had it, and I live in a small town in the country. You just walk into the store and buy it. Haha.

I don't chase and have never chased. I have asked my beer place to order or hold something coming in but that's it. I don't have the $ or want to chase. I stop at the WF once or twice a month and always check the beer. I have walked past so many rare tough beers. Saved a shit ton of $ by walking by.

End of the day 99% or more of these tough beers are not any better than beer sitting on a shelf. When I did have $ and bought beers I was almost always disappointed.

    It's beer. I drink what I like and can afford. I am on a $1limit a can/bottle this year and forward. I can't say I miss anything.

    Enjoy

I don't hunt for anything ever. I buy enough beer to have great relationships with store owners that will hold and seek out anything I want. I get anything I want without worrying about chasing trucks. :smirk:

I'm a beer delivery driver so I sometimes to get see beers in backrooms before they hit the shelves. If I see something I want I know exactly where to go. Besides this I've only hunted for two beers this year, Founders CBS with no luck and Bell's Black Note for two bottles. I haven't stopped but I'm not as enthusiastic about hunting beers.

In Texas I'd hunt, it's the only way to get the goods. Now I'm in southeastern Idaho, not as many good options, but not as much competition either. Back Friday was the same 5 or 6 people going to the only 3 places in town and buying our limit. Very relaxing morning and I got what I wanted. So I wouldn't say hunt, more like a gathering of product. Part of me misses those long jester king lines, and part of me likes the wallet being a little fatter. Either way, I still drink good beer and can't complain.

Seems like I've found some very satisfying beers that I buy regularly and only occasionally try something new. There are a couple I want to try if the price is right. So hunting for beers? Not really.

    I don't chase but if I see something I wanted - I might power walk a little.

That is to say - no camping, no entering lotteries, no asking the store to hold anything. I've wanted CBS a long time - knew it was coming out Dec 1. Went to the bottle shop by my work on my lunch break. I didn't look - asked if they had it and bought my bottle. I made some effort but I didn't go crazy. I probably wouldn't have bothered to hit the store Friday if CBS wasn't coming out that day so I "power walked" a little to get it - didn't chase.

The funny thing is that I do find myself going to the right place at the right time more often now than in the past; but 95% of the time it's not for me . If somebody's really done me a solid, than I'm more than happy to reciprocate in kind.

But, yeah, if it's just for me than I'll be satisfied just getting what crosses my path. It's worth noting, though, that my area has pretty kick ass distribution.

The increasing choices that I have in Casper over the last 5 years sure has quelled my lust for the hunt, to a point.

Sometimes, the beer I STILL lust for hunt me down. Thanks to the generous peeps, here on Beer Advocate.

I don't hunt anymore, not where I live in Texas. Not much to hunt. I do have friends around the country who will pick up and mail me beers if it is convenient for them though.

I'm almost there. Most of my chasing has ended up in disappointment. (Hazy IPAs, barrel aged stuff, etc)

I hunted and found CBS, and I'm sure it won't have been worth the trouble and money (and I paid MSRP).

I don't hunt anymore. That said I did stumble on CBS at 4 different spots. I was not interested in buying it but it doesn't appear to be much of a hunt to get.

Every so often the hunt seizes my FOMO genes and ramps them up. CBS this week was one, as it was something I really wanted to have for Christmas Eve/Day to share with my girlfriend's sister, whose big into BA beers and it will be fun to share with.

As @TongoRad mentioned, most of my hunting is rarely for myself anymore as it's too easy to get amazing beer in NYC for me to spend time/money on hunting. I'd rather spend those resources with friends and family.

After the Bourbon County disaster. I'm Not going to be putting in the same effort as in past years. I read online how quickly CBS was disappearing and stopped in at a large chain and they had it. No line just walk in. 2 bottle limit. I told a few other guys and I was happy.

Hunting is good, fill the freezer full of meat for the family...oops, you're hunting beer?
What fun is that? they don't move, hide, nothing, they just sit there in the back room.
