Happy NBS. My WI Badgers couldn't overcome the talented OSU Buckeyes and lost, yet again another BIG 10 Championship to them. Oh well, hopefully the get a decent bowl game opponent.

I thought we would see more reviews of this beer today, but maybe it wasn't as easy to find all over as it was in WI. Founds CBS if you will has been a beer I have patiently waited for since it was first released years ago, before I was really into big barrel aged stouts.

Poured 750ml bottle into snifter after letting it warm for 20 min. Color is a nice , dark black color with a thin tan head and no lacing. The smell has a nice and moderate bourbon aroma that blends with the maple syrup, coffee beans, and creamy chocolate. I imagine a nice cup of mocha espresso with, maple, and some caramel. The taste is fantastic. It's a nice combination of bourbon barrel, vanilla notes with dark chocolate with caramel. Hints of the maple and coffee are in the back. The feel is awesome. It's a heavy bodied beer with a very silky richness. The creaminess adds quite a bit to the beer's character. A lovely beer and I'm glad I bought 2 bottles.

Ok, time for my new beer contribution. But first, a blast from the past. I mentioned that beer that a local brewery, Old Ox, was not brewing this year. I happened to have one left from my last six-pack last year that just got lost in the shuffle along the way. So this will have to satisfy my desires for this year:

It's a little dull, but still has some raisin to date sweetness and just a hint of medium to light roast coffee in back. Just sort of bitter-leaning in the middle. So this has lost a bit of its coffee but is still mildly enjoyable to me, even with 13 months on it.

But for the real, NEW beer, we are taking a trip to the fantasy world of Clown Shoes, and going with Breakfast Beast. I debated using this last week as a couple people I think did, but I went with other options. So I will delve into this brew that is a blend of BBA Undead Party Crasher, Blaecorn Unidragon, and an unnamed stout with cold-brewed coffee as an additional ingredient (I would think after the barrel aging).

The beer poured near black and oily at first, but when the sun hit the pour at a different angle, a dark brown hue was noticed. Obsidian black in the glass, that nice mocha medium tan head looked initially like it would fizzle away. It did not, however, and became a creamy ring as I let the beer warm a tad.

Nose is a very roasted with a char that doesn't come across with any smoke. This dragon's breath is the dominant scent, but it does have barrel wood edges to it. I'm not really getting the coffee with any distinction.

Taste has the char as well, but it's smoothed out by the wood that adds a little tang - with some cherry and maybe even a hint of raspberry of all things - with a lighter roasted malt net effect. The back end has the char standing on its own, but in a weaker state than the likes of one of its components (Balecorn Unidragon). The coffee is again eluding me as a separate note, but it might be partly what's taming the tail of this beast.

This beer isn't as thick as it looked on initial sip, more a medium body. However, by about mid-taste, all the flavors sensations have joined the party and it gains a certain chewiness.

This comes about as a middle-of-the road option from Clown Shoes for me. The tang from the wood lingers a little too long as and almost becomes a light cheap tart red wine component that distracts from my enjoyment of the BA stout aspects. I also wished I could notice the coffee just a little.

I see others got coffee more as a more prevalent flavor than I did - I can live with that "disagreement."

P.S. I see 'Bama did get in, after all - good, bad, or indifferent. Really wished Wisconsin had won to keep both perennial participants out

Good afternoon all. I just finished all of my ladder work as in cleaning out the gutters and caulking the chimney. Word has it we will have snow deep enough to shovel by the end of this week. This afternoons treat is Crusher from the Alchemist in Stowe Vermont. I was told that it was purchased on august 5th and has been stored at 36 degrees. Pours a nice lite golden orange into a 12 ounce tulip glass with plenty of floaties and a slight haze to it. The head is fairly generous and is staying. It smells like a combo hop malt bomb. Yummy. First sip is killer. Age has not hurt it. Still very sweet and hoppy with a dry west coast finish. An excellent beer !!! I guess I will have to wait until next summer before I get my hands on some more. Have a great day folks! Time to put the lawn stuff away, start the generator for it's monthly 10 minute run and pull the fuel line and spark plug off on my 1972 John Deer snowblower with an Indian engine. It's old but still kicking. Update: Great lacing and I just poured the last of it into my glass and the chunks cometh. Oh well. Through the lips and past the gums, look out stomach here it comes :stuck_out_tongue:

Siren Craft Beer, Berkshire, England in collaboration with CCB “Barrel Aged Caribbean Chocolate Cake”. Aged in Bourbon Barrels 12 months, with Cocoa Nibs, Cypress Wood & Lactose:

Pours black with ruby edges; dark tan head, good retention; solid ring, good clarity, moderate minus lacing; lite legs. 4.5

Whiskey nose followed by molasses, brown sugar; bourbon raisin ice cream as it warms to 57 degrees. 4.25

Bourbon, brown sugar, molasses and cocoa; followed by sour wood notes (Lactose? Cypress?); Chocolate/rum raisin finish. 4.25

Medium body, slightly slick vs. creamy feel; moderate carbonation; a little warmth for 8.4%; dry wooden tongue coating. 4.0

Overall, the Cypress/Lactose combo leaves a sour wooden dry bite/linger that’s not for me; otherwise the supporting cast of flavors are quite enjoyable. 4.0

There’s plenty of cocoa and bourbon and I’d enjoy this stout more without the other flavors I found distracting...but that could just be my tongue, others may enjoy this combination. Like the top 4 college football teams this season, everybody has their opinions/likes/dislikes - Cheers!

First up today Tired Hands Trendler Alt. Tired Hands does more than just make hazy hyped hop bombs with all the trendiest hops, they actually brew some very nice lagers and world class tart saisons, both of which I feel are more consistent in quality too. So time to get into my review of this Altbier.

    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

16 oz can, dated 11/10/17, poured into a pint glass

A- A slightly murky brownish deep amber with a two finger off white head

S- Some citrusy and piney hops, touch of tea leaves, toasted malts, some sweet bread, hoppier than I thought it was going to be

T- Toasted malts, some caramel malts, sweet bready, touch of citrus, piney finish, slightly nutty.

    M- Smooth, light body.

O- This a solid, easy drinking beer, but I do feel it is over hopped some.

Love the new labels for the Trendler series but this does seem hoppy for an Altbier, still taste though, cheers NBS!

Welcome to our little thread. You've probably posted before, but this is the first in my memory. Cheers!

I think some people might not have had the willpower to wait

Also, I'm not one to count posts of a particular beer or anything , but I think we're at three (3) CBS posts so far

New beer #3. Also my favorite of the day so far.

    Citradamus - Melvin
    IIPA - 9.5% abv
    Canned 11/11/17 (22 days ago)

L - Hefty, billowing head atop a copper body.

S - Not much. A little orange, a little spicyness.

T - Citrus at first, then a huge hit of breadiness. The malt level in this is crazy. Sourdough and rye. Some "meatiness". Some dankness. Very low bitterness.

F - Thick and heavy by ipa standards.

O - Very, very different. This is not a juice ipa as the name might lead you to think. It's got that meatiness to it that I also experienced drinking Foley Brother's Prospect. I wish I knew what created the meaty taste, because I love it and want to find more beers that taste like this one.

Lloyds Christmas ale, this first looks like cola soda in the glass. Above average carbonation but was an easy beer to drink. Aroma was this beers best character trait, fig and malt forward followed by a light ginger smell. Taste followed aroma,a bit sweet but far from sickly sweet but the fig came through in an obvious but not overwhelming way. Finish is where a slight bit of ginger showed up. Didn't have high expectations but this was surprisingly good[IMG]

Thanks for the welcome cj as this indeed is my first post in NBS. Seems about the time I started making images of beers I stopped reviewing them - I still score them but no reasons why. It's obvious this thread is very much enjoyed weekly, I'll try to participate more often.

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @cjgiant for getting us underway today.

Currently a chilly, damp 36° in near-downtown Spokanistan. Thinking about making some pork tacos, but that may just be the reluctance to eat more Thanksgiving leftovers talking.

Very sad to have missed the NBS 666 mayhem. I was 150 miles away from my home, in my hometown, participating in a late-Thanksgiving/Apple Cup (really thought we'd have a great game this year, but the Dawgs poured it on again. I'm a Husky fan, but, geez...) meal of utter culinary debauchery. I didn't have a new beer, though the 6-pk of Bodhizafa I brought was new to my brother, who liked it greatly, I'm told.

On Thursday, I hit a beer that, while technically not new to me, was the first of it's 2017 vintage. Anyone with access to this year's Coffee ba Dark Star from Fremont should grab it. I bought two bottles in addition to my draught consumption (one went to a friend for his b-day), and am thinking I might need another. For science, of course.

Today I'm hitting at least one of the remaining beers from @WesMantooth's devastating multi-pronged assault upon my porch, and maybe a regional IPA, before heading to a friend's place with a tbd growler for Seahawks watching purposes.

Happy New Beer Sunday! I found this beer when I was up in Massachusetts visiting family. Breakfast Exorcism by Clown Shoes Brewing, which is composed of Undead Party Crasher (formally Vampire Slayer, one of my favorite stouts of all time), aged in bourbon barrels with cold brewed coffee. As with most Clown Shoes beers, excellent label art. I spent a lot of time at Sunset Cantina during my college days in Boston. Sorry for the blurry close up, my phone doesn't like to focus anymore it seems

Bottled 4/18/17; poured into a St. Bernardus goblet because I broke my favorite tulip glass like the clumsy fool that I am. Pours pitch black in color with a light-tanned colored head. Malty aroma with roasted malt and some subtle coffee. Flavor is layered and incredibly flavorful. Notes or chocolate, molasses, coffee, roasted malt and subtle notes of smoke and bit of vanilla booziness from the bourbon barrels. Slightly slick mouthfeel. Overall this is in my top 10 list of favorite breakfast stouts. Another outstanding stout from Clown Shoes. 4.6/5

    Happy NBS!

I was kind of hoping to not see Alabama in the top 4, alas that didn't work out so much. Maybe Clemson will take care of business. Anyways on to better and tastier things.

Port City's Trader Joe's Belgian Style Pale Ale

Pours a clear, pale yellow with a thick, white head that is slow to fade. Smell is coriander, yeast, and grass, all slightly faint. Flavor is fairly crisp, wheat, fresh grass, and lemon. Medium light body, lingering flavor. Overall, not bad. Not something I'd buy again, but it's working with some nachos during a football game.
