Against my better judgement I was at Mega Mart amongst the knuckledraggers and mouth breathers yesterday, when I noticed a 24 pack of Hamm's for $12.99. I've never seen it in Maine and part of me really wanting to try it. A single or sixer I would have spent the money, but figured I wouldn't like it and didn't want to spend the money to end up dumping the stuff. I read all of the BA reviews and drank thousands of gallons of Bud in the past before walking away from AALs completely a few years ago. So, would the Hamm's drinkers weigh in? Is it really better than Bud, or is it Old Milwaukee in a different can?

Based on the comments you were getting about Hamm's and it's drinkability in your budget thread I'm surprised you just didn't buy it and try it.

It is what it is. For a budget beer I'll take it over Bud or Miller's offerings, and slightly ahead of PBR.

It's my house beer. I pay $12.49-$14 a case. I saw 16oz the other day for about the same per oz.

Easy drinker from the can. This is how I keep my purchases to $1 a beer average.

I was a PBR drinker but Hamms is better.

    Enjoy

Love Hamm's! Great beer for less. If you want a smooth drinking AAL, this is your best bet.

If you can temper your expectations to the bounds of an AAL, then Hamm's is good and a step above it's peers. You can actually taste the hops in it. Hamms reminded me of Yuengling's Lord Chesterfield, but cheaper. If you don't mind an AAL here and there, then go for it. but it's not going to scratch any craft beer itches.

I don't like Bud but I do like Hamms, if that helps. Hamms is lighter in flavor than PBR but better knit together without the latter's rough edges. As with many frugal consumer decisions you pay your money and take your chance. I mean, what do you really expect for less than 5 cents an ounce. If you don't like it I'm sure you can find someone to give it to.

I was rDev of +17% this summer. It's fairly clean in the finish compared to even "premium" adjunct lagers. If you enjoy occasional AALs, you'll be OK. Another way to look at it is, you'd be out that much on most bombers or a couple single 12oz bottles. If you don't like the Hamm's, use it for soup base or bread.

It is all about what you like. Who cares the price/brand. If you like the product, it works for what you want, buy it. I always enjoy a 12 pack of PBR to have around the yard when working etc. It is all about what you enjoy and what makes you happy.

It’s great yard work beer as long as it’s ice cold. You have to drink it fast though, because it’s terrible when it starts to get warm.

It's the best AAL on the market.

If you just want to drink beer and not fuss over bold flavors go for it.

    Yes. Yes, it is.

If you can't get Hauenstein (and you can't), Hamm's is a good second choice. Goes great with a whole roast pig, too.

I confess I'm confused by your post. You indicated you walked away from AAL's all together a few years ago (I did the same thing, though it was more than a "few" years ago), yet your contemplating getting a case of Hamm's? A case? Why?

You're almost certainly not going to enjoy it (if it matters to you, I also think it's better than bud, but that's a VERY low bar), so why are you even contemplating getting it? Is the lure of buying such an inexpensive beer that much of an attraction?

I spent the $13 towards Tree House, and Focal Banger. Seriously.
As far as budget, I do okay with what I used to spend on AAL on strictly craft.

The hops are key, I read that in the reviews.

Because I've never seen it in Maine.Curiosity, palate is toast. And in twenty years of legally drinking beer, I've had every kind of cheap beer but that one.

Understood, and I admire your sense of adventure.

    But... a case? :sunglasses:
