What types of beer do you like drinking post-workout/exercise? Any styles, brand recommendations greatly appreciated!

You do understand that beer has these invisible micro-particles known as calories, right? The purpose of them is to restore those lost through dangerous acts known as exercise. Best bet is to build up as many calories as possible, so that exercise does not fatally deplete your store of them. For this reason, I suggest high-ABV BA stouts.

If you are serious here--not sure.....

Pilsner/lager is the way to go. Less EtOH, very easy going down. Drinking immediately post exercise goes straight to your head due to somewhat dehydrated state and typically empty stomach.

In the late 70s during the Jim Fixx running craze (most know what happened to him), when you made to the end of one of the very first Hackney's Great Raleigh Road Races (a 10K) there were barrels of AALs staged 50 ft from the finish line for the participants. Was a different time then.

If I run late enough in the day that's drinking time, then I'll chase my workout with the same beer I normally drink - any beer in my fridge.

Notable preferences are to IPAs and stouts, with the former being more in the warmer months. For long marathon training runs, I'll usually reach for a higher ABV beer that night to dump some calories back in the system. If it's a wicked hot day during my run, then that's one of the few occasions I'll reach for a simple pilsner or light sour. Of course, beer is third in my recovery process - a Nalgene of water, and scrambled eggs or greek yogurt are first and second.

Wasn't that the reason this beverage was created?

Drink water after your workout. Once you're properly hydrated again, start drinking beer. Hopefully after you've showered. Thank me later.

    Water + 25 - 30 grams of protein = happy muscles

Exactly. I usually down half the Nalgene by the time I'm home, and then down the other half with a Chobani or 3 scrambled eggs. If it was a big day, I'll make a peanut butter and banana smoothie.

And then I'll move onto some beer

I usually go with water pre/post workout. Due to dehydration effects. If you consume any alcohol you will only further dehydrate and hinder any results. I do have a few beers later in the day evening but that is after I have hydrated and had meal, etc.
I have friends who ride long distances and they do have a few beers post ride to help with leg soreness so I guess to each their own. You know your body and how it reacts etc.

I guess if you're after something refreshing and crisp after a workout, it's hard to beat Founders PC Pils. I love those during softball season. You're screwed for any workouts during the fall or winter though, since it's a seasonal lol.

Once a month, I do a 45 mile bike ride. Hair of the Dog is on the route home. I usually get an Adam from the Wood.

Place a can of beer (no bottle) in an ice bath and get the shower running. Then pop open the can and take it with you into the shower.

Favorite style after a long run: Raspberry Berliner Weisse.

All this sweaty bro-talk is making me thirsty.
As a former Hash House Harrier (in Austin)...we mixed the two regularly (running/drinking) and had a great, dangerous time doing so. Disclaimer: Not recommended for the weak of stomach, those with a conscience, or if you have a strong sense of memory or mortality.

Great timing on this thread. Yesterday I made the mistake of drinking a couple stouts after work, even though I had a round of Insanity scheduled when I got home. Bad idea - but hey, free beer.

Turns out my performance seems to have improved when I worked out an hour later (still not terribly impressive, mind you). My theory is the peanut butter in the peanut butter porter provided the protein I needed.

    YMMV.

I’m a runner but when it comes down to it beer is beer and I don’t see a connection between exercise and drinking “the right kind of beer.” After I’m done running, I’m in the mood for whatever I’m in the mood for. If this thread is about calories, then drink water. Then again, I burn 3,000 calories a day at work so my perspective is scewed, I do not think about such things.
