    This one . . .

Taste of bright, shining hops on entry. Not a harshly bitter hop flavor, rather a velvet hammer approach that brings flavor forward almost softly while at the same time disclosing an underlying strength. Malt is clean and richly flavored like a solid Vienna Lager and offsets the hops not in a balancing sense, rather in an Academy Award winning supporting role. This isn't really a complex beer but it has complex flavors.

Nothing special, but a decent Berliner Weisse.

Good morning BA, have a great Sunday! Another usual day for me. Bottle returns, laundry, and some catch up work for tomorrow. Got a morning meeting presentation to finish up. Looks like we didn't get as much snow yesterday, shouldn't be too bad of a drive today.

6 year revisit review. This is excellent! Fantastic head retention and thick lasting lacing on the glass. Flavors of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, maple syrup, wood, and herbal/grassy/peppery hops; with lighter notes of raisin, plum, fig, date, apricot, apple, peat smoke, toffee, molasses, chocolate, and yeasty earthiness. Similar but muted aromas. Mild herbal, woody, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a great creamy/bready/silky malt mouthfeel; slight slickness, hop stickiness, and chalky roast. Slight bitter dryness, no cloying sweetness. Zero warming 9.1%. Very smooth sipper. Very rich English malt complexity with great maple syrup presence; mild earthy hop balance and restrained fruity English yeast character in the background. Really spot on Scotch ale. A bit better than my first impression. Would buy again. 4.01

Haven't had a fresh(ish) regular dragons milk in a while. 8 months old. This was fantastic! Flavors of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, almonds, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, smoke, molasses, and dark fruits. Mild roast bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spice on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body. Very creamy, bready, silky malt mouthfeel; slight chalky roast, oak tannins, and dryness. Super smooth sipper, zero warming 11%. I really should buy this more often! Very rich and complex, with perfect balance between dark/roast malts and bourbon barrel character. Great barrel integration with minimal booze. A stark contrast after having the rum barrel 20th yesterday. Not even sure I want to try and age another one of those. Too much booze on that one.

Amazing batch this year, as usual. Flavors of huge cinnamon, mint, nutmeg, ginger, clove, vanilla, coffee, cream, and chili pepper spice; with balanced milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, fudge, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted dark bread malt sweetness. Mild herbal spice and roasted bitterness; touch of char. Bittersweet balanced finish; with a fantastic creamy, silky, velvety, and rich full body mouthfeel. Some light sticky/chalky notes and dryness from the spices and roast malts. Dangerously smooth 13%, mild lingering warmth of alcohol and pepper heat. Super rich and decadent. Perfect balance of spices and stout flavors. One of my favorite spiced stouts along with regular Bomb! Will be grabbing many more as I do every year. One of my stores still has 2016 on the shelf too. Would be a nice mini vertical to check out.

Amazing pumpkin ale! Aromas and flavors of huge caramel, pumpkin, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove, bourbon, toasted oak, biscuit, brown bread, and light coconut. Light-moderate herbal/spice bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Creamy, bready, silky medium-full body; with light slickness, spice stickiness, and oak tannins. Slightly drying spice and oak tannin. Super smooth 9%, zero warming or barrel booze. Just as amazing as I remember from 2 years ago when I reviewed it. Perfect balance of malt, pumpkin, spices, and bourbon barrels. Looking forward to trying out this year's 3 Scrooges BBA. Still have a 2016 aging too. Will probably break that out over the Christmas work break week.

All the snow pics are awesome! The best I can do from FL is a bit of frost on the mustang, 34 outside now. I was going to pass on an early beer but have been doing chores since the wife went to work. Laundry, vacuuming, watching Lone Survivor and enjoying this fine fellow as it slowly warms....

Gilgamesh • Bull Run Brown (Rum Barrel Aged Brown Ale)

The label on the front of this bottle promises something wonderful. But the elixir inside fails to deliver. I don’t think there was a rum barrel even in the same zip code as the brewery...

I went out looking for this yesterday. Always a great BA beer. Tons or caramel, roasty and barrel flavors. Very smooth.
