All this beer I've been buying won't drink and review itself, so I may as well have another while watching the Steelers-Ravens game.

A stop at my local store Friday morning yielded a beer I've been curious to try. Known for their affordable barrel aged six packs of coffee stout, they always get broken into singles here driving the price up. Gotta pay to play around here! So without further adieu, I bring you Lagunita's Willettized Coffee Stout. A twelve ounce bottle that was sold as a $2.99 single with a date stamp of 333 7 2. The abv. is 12.6% and I'm serving in a Lagunita's mason jar. Let's give it a whirl!

Pours a dark cola brown producing two fingers of frothy tan foam that slowly settles revealing some thick lacing. The smell is bakers chocolate, rye, whiskey and licorice. Some weak coffee emerges through the booze. Taste is rye whiskey forward with dark chocolate, char and oak. The feel is creamy but thin with considerable alcohol heat.

If I didn't read the label, I would have had trouble identifying this as a coffee stout. The rye whiskey is the star of the show running over anything else that may be in there. The barrel presence tastes fine, I was just hoping for more balance. My score is 3.77 / rDev-10.9%. I'll take High West over this every time.

I'm definitely out for tonight. Have yourselves a great week! I leave you with this......

Greetings All from the Great Northwest where it is frosty. The hoar frost hasn't melted off the trees and fence wires since Thursday. But no snow as found in wintry places like uh Texas?

Today we have a sweet stout from Left Hand Brewing.

Not as creamy as I was hoping for, but a nice milk stout just the same.

Real bush league ending to the Seahawk game today. It might be time to put the '12' glass away for the year.

    Until next time,

    Happy Trails!

After a rather ugly football game and some dinner, I'm relaxing with a book, some music, and a Jackie O's Gose from @WesMantooth:

It's a little bigger and a little sharper than others of the style that I've had. More an adult's Gose, if you will. More sharp, crisp and tart than Goses I could drink all day, perhaps, but also more interesting.

Copying my review, this has been cellared ~2 years
750mL bottle poured into a snifter
A: Amber with a thin head
S: Cherry, fruit esters, butterscotch, a bit of stone fruit and bourbon
T: Nice cherry/stone fruit notes with secondary brown sugar/bourbon notes
M: Full-bodied, somewhat sweet, only a bit of alcohol
O: The bourbon barrel adds a lot to this triple. A nice beer with a nice fruit/compliment blend
Overall a nice blend that age has treated well.
    Cheers!

Had my morning beer before doing some holiday shopping with my wife. My patience and ability to carry several bags paid off with her suggesting taking me to a brewery. My go to Athens brewery closes early and doesn't serve food so I thought we'd try a new place I've been eyeing for several months, Akedemia Brewing. After we made it home I shared a few more beers with neighbor so I'm a little too inebriated to review all the new beers I tried at Akedemia but I'll give a brief highlight and a review of the one I chose to get a crowler of to bring home.

Starting on the left was I.Q. IPA, fairly common citrus forward brew.
Next was Niobe's Tears, a pretty decent Gose.
Then it was Hoprodite, I picked up a crowler of this one to go. Poured a slighty hazy orange.
Juicy citrus notes on the smell, orange, grapefruit.
Taste follows, a well balanced juicy IPA.
Overall a pretty solid IPA, I would keep it in the fridge as a local option if it were available to go outside of a crowler format.
The last beer was Noctua, an Imperial Stout. Would love to try the BA version of this one. Pretty full bodied chocolaty stout.
The food was also pretty tasty, I had an ale glazed pork chop, my wife had a wild mushroom swiss burger (pretzel bun) that was really good. Had the cheese curds with chipotle ketchup that were awesome for an appetizer.

If you were in the Athens area this would be worth a stop, if you were in Atlanta I'm not sure it would warrant the hour and a half drive.
