Too early to tell at this point I would think... feel free to send me a message the day before you fly into Michigan and I can check around a bit. I’ll be honest though, not a ton of places with strong tap lists on that side of town... Not having a car will be tough for the hunt.

Best of luck and feel free to reach out. Cheers!

I appreciate the feedback. I typically will stay a few days when I go out there for work. This is a quick one because of the holidays.
I'm in late Tuesday night and back on a plane by Thursday lunch time.

Had a bottle split three ways with friends the other weekend. I was going into it trying to not be super hyped. Having a flurry of really good BA stouts over the last month+ helped with that mindset. I have no frame of reference here b/c I haven't had 2011 or 2014. That said, I definitely got maple out of this. As has been noted, I wasn't expecting huge maple as it was picked up by barrel only. It was most certainly there. Lightly on the nose, but especially on the back end. Mouthfeel was similar to KBS. All the elements of the coffee and chocolate are there too. Mild barrel character. Overall, very nice beer.

Slightly on topic, anyone know why the CBS thread in Completed Trades forum axed?

I'm guessing because of all of the bickering back and forth about the trade value. People with it (who had been anticipating the release for it's previous whale status) wanted it to be super high, as they were excited to have something everyone wanted. On the other side, people were saying it's worth nothing because it's something everyone got if they wanted it, and with minimal effort.

It's a little of column a & b -- I got my hands on a few and made some trades early figuring the hype would serve me better in the short run. No regrets thus far.

Bottle pickup at Founders Detroit was a slow go. I’ll cut them slack since it’s new and they aren’t going to have it running as smoothly as GR does. Bottle pickup in GR takes a minute. Walk up, show a ticket, walk out with bottles. Pickup today took 45 minutes. Combination of sheer number of people in line, plus slow checkout procedures. But it’s alright...got my beer!

Yeah they definately had their fare share of issues, most importantly the three forms of ID, payment and a ticket. You would think if you had the ticket with your ID that matched it, common sense would prevail, but they wanted to be diligent in their ways. Needless to say GR was smoother and they will get it down.

While the barrel statement is 100% true, the maple bomb statement CAN be 100% false. I can't vouch for any of the new bottles, but 2011 release bottle variation had many maple bombs. 2 of 4 of my bottles at that time were. I understand what you are saying about not having straight syrup in the recipe, I'm just saying that the barrels can still impart strong flavors.

Agreed. 2011 bottles and drafts I had exhibited much more maple than this new vintage.

New here. Came here to say that this was a total let down. No maple and thin AF.

New to craft beer in 2017, but not a fan.

Haha love the name and this quote...

But I kind of agree. Had it on tap tonight. A lot of subtle flavors... good but not great. Maple/Coffee is my favorite combo in a stout FWIW

Hate to beat a dead horse, but I just want to comment on my bottle experience. I had this on draft release day and thought it was a bit thin, but otherwise a great beer. Bottled version is super thick and I think the flavors are even better. This bottle I'm having now is as good as any version of CBS I've had, including 2011. Just my 2 cents.

Burger Antics has CBS right now, and I think it's great. However, they are pouring it from the bottle, not draft.

I finally opened mine. Maybe not top-15 good, but I'm glad I got two. Smooth, well balanced and while not particularly thick, the mouthfeel is fairly rich. The maple is subtle, but it's there.

Wasn't too bad for me. I had pickup on the 15th and the line was pretty ridiculous when they opened at 11, but was empty by 1230. The taproom was full when I got there at 1105 and just kept getting more crowded. Still with all the traffic, it was easy to walk up and grab some pours and order some food. The heaters outside were on full blast and it wasnt too bad out there while I was eating my lunch.

Does someone know if they still have the CBS glasses? I bought one when I picked up my CBS bottles at their Detroit location but accidentally broke it yesterday. :-(

Question to everyone I just got a bottle of CBS I read i should save it since it’s only released every once and a while. So my question is should I save the bottle or drink it??? I’m having a hard time deciding lol

Flavors like bourbon, maple, and coffee tend to fade over time. If you only got one bottle I'd crack it over the next few weeks.

I got 3. Had 2 already and saving my last one for a couple of months tops.
