In my opinion this is nowhere near as good as the high westified version. Still a good beer at a great price.

Picked up some today, and did a blind tasting with 2017 Willetized and 2016 High Westified. I've had some recent HW bottles with a green pepper tinge, so I thought the comparison would be easy. I got it wrong. In retrospect, the booze is a little more evident in the fresh version, but not by a lot.

    I confirmed a few things-
    1) I can't tell the difference between one brand of whiskey and another (expected)
    2) I expected the coffee presence to vary, but it didn't enough for me to tell
    3) If the Willetized ages like the High Westified, I'm in good shape.
    4) Lagunitas makes a really good BA Imperial Stout at a great price point

Anyone know when this is hitting the East? I cannot find this in Ohio and I need to get a 6 pack.

I'm also keeping my eye out for it in the Cleveland area and haven't seen it yet... Didn't see Born Yesterday here, though, which worries me that I won't see Willet

The abv is a few tenths higher, which shouldn’t make much diff but side by side with Westfied it did seem a little hotter right out the gate with a touch more rye. Lots of coffee for me in both still. Amazing value and great beers.

Local bevmo got it too! Luckily had a coupon to sweeten their sale. It’s delicious! Willet happens to be my favorite rye.

I stumbled upon the last 6'er at Whole Foods after work yesterday, so I cracked one open last night. Really nice beer, and the price is tough to beat (I'm pretty sure no BA beer does beat it). I might like it more than High West, but it's too hard to really remember. I still have some HW from last year that I can try side by side soon, but obviously that beer has changed over a year.

If we ever get this stuff to travel 70 miles south of the brewery I would be more than happy to put it up against the few bottles of 2017 High West that I have from a couple of months ago. I don't understand... We can get Born Yesterday within hours of it being bottled and yet we can't get Willetized until weeks after it's reached the east coast?

While I'm starting to salivate at the prospects of this one, I'm wondering if anyone knows just how Lagunitas manages to keep the cost down so low on their BA beers? I can't imagine warehouse space in Petaluma being so significantly lower as to allow them to pass the savings on to the customer. And yet, I also cannot think of any other brewery that has consistently put out BA beers at such a low price point and with such wide distro, even prior to their expansion + sale.

I wonder the same? My best presumption is that we're all sheep paying $500 for a prada t-shirt that cost $5 to make when we buy our $7, $8, $9, or $16 barrel aged stouts.

Maybe they get a killer good deal on the barrels because they advertise the name of the distillery prominently on the label and within the name of the beer itself. Lagunitas is one of the only breweries to do that.
