    Had a fibulvvinter tonight. Maybe my palate is off, but it was a syrupy sweet mess for me. Rare miss.

    Yea, strange, thought it was really close to 5 monks but without the initial heat. Obviously the syrupy sweetness is intended for the style they are after. Again 5 monks was like this and I felt like the sweetness was warranted to help hide the high heat vs. a Tripel where it's so dry you notice the alcohol presence a bit more. I wonder though what made you think it was a mess vs. just sweet?

    I loved five monks, and I have been avoiding ipa for the most part, so lupulin shift and the "sweet beers are too sweet" situation that comes with it are out. It was just too damn sweet with the rum barrel and base beer. Oddly enough 5 monks had a nice candi sugar flavor, while this beer had none.

    Had some of this years Tweak the other day....I still miss the wonderfully coffee forward non-barrel version of this beer, but I certainly enjoyed this bottle.

    I got a 5 Monks waiting.

    The 2012 Samaels I had was so vibrant. Light port flavour but other than that, no oxidation.

    Rum barrel quandry was more what I was expecting flavor wise from that new quad of avery's. Five monks has dark fruit and candi sugar that's complex as hell. I'm jealous you still have one.
