Used to hang out at the local dive bar some 30 years ago.
One guy kept saying he didn't drink.
He'd order one of those 'near ' beers, over ice of course.
And chase the iced beer with a shot of whiskey.

Sounds like she was pretty rad. I wouldn't mind drinking a beer like that if it was put in front of me.

I did, and it wasn't bad. Fond memories, probably one of the few that liked DKML. Brought back a lot of memories. Grandma who liked malt liquor and Old Crow.....

I put peanut butter on my toast right out of the toaster so it is all runny!my wife says that is disgusting, but not to me. So beer over ice, I won't judge.

The few times this happened to me usually involved some outdoor activity where the only choices were to drink warm (hot) beer or pour it over ice. I went with ice.

60 years ago, (Yes, I remember bar hopping with my dad), salt shakers were all over the bars. Shake a little in your glass, or in a shot glass with your beer, and watch what happens. I have no idea why the salt does that.

I've been in the beer business as a sales rep and a delivery driver for 15 + years and I've seen it about 4-5 times. I really thought it strange the first time I saw it while I was creating an order for a biker bar. The man, according to the bartender, was a retired postal worker in his eighties and liked his Coors in a bottle served warm but poured over ice.
But I've never seen it personally as in someone I'm drinking with asks for ice with their beer.

I was having a fall beer at a wholefoods bar+coffee bar and saw this guy in his early 20s tell the Ethiopian lady* behind the bar "I'll take three 10oz Pumkings with whipped cream and extra nutmeg sprinkled on top for me and my lady friends!" *I mention the woman was Ethiopian because she was a good friend and very sweet and smart lady, but admittedly knew more about coffee and lattes than about beer but loved her customers whether it was morning noon or night.

She looked at him sideways, but I guess didn't know how to explain what she knew would happen. He thought she didn't understand and did a motion with a whipped cream over a cup, like she was an idiot. She poured all three beers, put the right in front of him on the bar, sprayed whipped cream on, it of course curdled, and then sprinkled nutmeg on top of the mess and said "here you go sir, how you like it?'

I was dying, as were other people who were friends with this bartender.

Each grain of salt provides a nucleation point for the CO2 to release and foam over the top of the glass. And now you know the rest of the story.

It's served cold, but the climate warms beer quickly hence the utilization of ice to keep it cold.

(I backpacked for 30 days through Vietnam).

I don't see the harm, it sounds like AALs are the prime candidate for ice. I'd also assume they are not really for sipping and contemplating the meaning of life. If you add ice to a Bud you get a sort of Bud Light I'd assume, and I'd like to be the owner on that one brand, and I'd be retired many moons ago as would every member of my family.
