Jack, I can tell you that those Hamms are worthy. They just do not carry that oblique "ferment flavor" that present with even more notable brewery names. Hamms does stand out, to me, as a very drinkable everyday beer.

If I ever see a 6-pack of Hamms I will indeed buy one.

    Cheera!

It's been years, but I'd also endorse Hamm's, I haven't seen it here though.

I have a hard time endorsing a “value” beer that costs more than $1 per bottle/can

That’s my usual benchmark as well for the term “value.”

Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, and Founders usually fit that bill around this area.

For me it’s either Sierra Nevada or Jacks Abby. The new Post Shift Pilsner from JA is probably the best fridge beer around.

So I think "value" and "economical" are two different questions.

Value means best price for what you are buying.

Economic means inexpensive but still worth the price.

Most people have already commented on the economical question, so I will comment on the value aspect.

I have found in my area Costco has the best prices and they often have some interesting selections.

I recently was buying bottles at El Segundo Brewing Company and was two bottles short of a case. I was informed by the person serving me, that if I filled up the case, two bottles, I get 10% off. I like/drink their beer, no brainer, "value". The point being be aware of discounts at your local brewery.

The Bruery's xmas sale put White Oak up for $4.25. A great value. So take full advantage of any beer clubs you participate in

My point is: There are great values out there, pay attention, know your preferences, and take advantage of the value right in front of you.

You are living in a time where great beer at every price point is right in front of you.

agreed......I am in the $1 a beer or less all year round. Sure I miss out on some great beers but I do treat myself and fill in with Hamms 30 pack, $14 or so and High Life bottles when on sale for $14.99. Saves me a lot of $ and in the end Im good. I have been saving to buy as much Lagunitas Willet as I find but not seeing any. I stopped looking now so more $ saved. Its good to have $ for food as well.

A good low budget beer when you can find it is Dab dark. Around $18 a case for 24x16. Never had the regular, same price.

    Enjoy

I am guessing Hamms doesn't fall off quick, right?

Where in PA are you located?

The best deals on good beer are Founders 15 packs at $16-$19, or Sierra Nevada 12 packs at around $15.

    Flying Fish.

Im 45 minutes east of the brewery. I like all the beer in their lineup. $8 a sixer of either english ipa, hoppy red, dubbel or pale. The pale is almost a mildly hoppy pils to me. The rotating beers like farmhouse, belgo strong, oyster stout, DIPA, tripel and braggot i enjoy them all.

Wolster Pils. $1 pounders so thats $6 for a sixer of pint cans.

+1. To me, Hamms has this very czech pils-like quality to it. Id say, not 10/10 in similarity (not as in the likes of pilsner urquell) but hamms stands out against the AAL crowd. Cheers.

Found it at the mini Wal-Mart in Guilford College. at $11.87 a case. Trouble is, 24 goes down as quickly as 12 of anything else.

Also, $8.99 or or $9.99 for most six packs of Great Lakes, Brooklyn, and Victory beers is awesome. Even the high abv six packs from Victory are only usually $11.99.

Well, you did say craft and not sure this qualifies, but others were contributing non/ex craft. And you never said good was a requirement. Certainly a value though, more drunk-for-the-buck for either of these. BTW - the one on the right fails the truth in labeling test.

Around here, I have to go with Fort Hill Brewery.

    Fresh Pick: $9.99 a sixer
    Farmer's Fresh: $8.99 a sixer

My formula for value is (Taste x Availability / Price).
So my favorite is Hoponius Union (Taste [4.75] x Availability [100%] / Price [$13.99/12 pack]).
All the others mentioned from Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, Smuttynose, etc. are right there too.
