A little bit syruppy, but it's not too bad because there's a slight sourness to balance out the sweetness. Great raspberry aroma and flavor.

Good morning BA, have a great Sunday! Just another typical day for me here with bottle returns, laundry, groceries, and some catch up work for tomorrow. Should be a really pleasant work week hopefully. With the Holiday work break coming up next week, a lot of people will be out of the office. I have a lot of deadlines to meet by the end of this week, so I'll be pretty busy.

Awesome scotch ale. Been buying this a lot since I revisited it earlier this year. Flavors of big caramel, raisin, plum, prune, fig, date, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, and nutty malts; with lighter notes of peat smoke, chocolate, cocoa, leather, tobacco, and herbal/peppery hops. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied creamy, bready, silky mouthfeel; light sticky hops and chalky roast, with increasing bitter dryness. Very smooth, mildly warming ABV. Just a little too bitter and increasingly drying for the style; but the rich malt and fruity yeast complexity is completely spot on. Really love it, even though I prefer Scotty Karate for the non-BA style. Been drinking a ton of Founders lately. Glad Backwoods is year round next year.

Last year's batch is tasting fantastic! Coming up on 2 years old next month. Flavors of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, peat smoke, brown bread, nuttiness, toasted oak, vanilla, maple syrup, raisin, plum, fig, date, juniper berry, leather, tobacco, herbal, pepper, clove, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal bitterness and spicy yeast finish; with an awesome balance of malt sweetness and yeast/oak character. Medium-full bodied creamy, silky mouthfeel; a touch slick, syrupy, sticky, and tannic. Light spicy yeast/tannic oak dryness, never cloying. I hope they release this again next year. Still some on the shelf now from last year, I keep grabbing more occasionally to keep the 4 pack in my cellar filled up lol. Aging gracefully!

Insane NE DIPA! Fantastic head retention and lacing for the style. Aromas and flavors of huge tangerine, orange juice, peach, apricot, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, grapefruit, guava, lemon, citrus zest, berry, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate wheat, white bread dough, light honeyed malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Very minimal pine, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied bready/grainy creaminess in the mouthfeel. Slight hop stickiness, with a touch of increasing lingering bitter dryness. Zero hop astringency. Dangerously drinkable for 9.3%, minimal warming ABV. One of the absolute best in the style I've had no doubt. Pure citrus/tropical fruit juice hop flavors, with a touch of dankness. Never overly sweet or heavy feeling on malts for the body/ABV; perfectly balanced. Less than 2 week old dating. Glad these are in distro now, blows M-43 out of the water, but I will still be buying both

Amazing this year as expected! Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, fudge, brownie batter, marshmallow, vanilla, caramel, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark bread; with lighter notes of coconut, smoke, charcoal, raisin, fig, cherry, and dates. Touch of booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Light-moderate roast/char bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spice on the finish. Very full bodied creamy, silky, velvety mouthfeel; some light slickness, chalky roast, and barrel tannins. Lightly increasing dryness from bitter char and bourbon/oak tannin. Very smooth sipper, mildly warming 12.9%, zero barrel booze. Definitely a step up from the base beer on complexity, super rich. Classic RIS flavors with awesome barrel presence; without being overly tannic, drying, or boozy. Absolutely love the marshmallow/fudge brownie notes that come from the barrel aging. Glad I was able to find a few this year. Always worth the price.

On entry it is malt forward but more dry than the scent indicates. This is a fuller, richer flavor than a run of the mill amber such as Yuengling (good but ordinary good) that elevates this beer to a higher level. Hops enter mid palate and while sitting pretty maintain a low profile as if they were the frame for a malt picture. Bready elements appear just before the finish which also brings surprising but pleasing burst of hops leading the crowd into the aftertaste with enough bite to leave an impression of refreshment.

Very nice west coast inspired IPA. Dank hops, biscuity malts, citrus, hint of tropical fruit, lots of pine and bitterness.
