a buddy of mine is writing a thesis on the growth of craft breweries in South Jersey I was wandering if any of you had any suggestions on who to interview?
Pretty simple, any or all of the new brewery owners, and some of the older breweries as well for perspective. All of that can be easily done via the internet. The owners of distributorships would also lend perspective, and perhaps some of the mayors of towns where brewing has been allowed. Armageddon Brewing, which makes cider, might also be a good choice as they had to get state laws passed to produce cider outside of a vineyard/winery setting. But then again the early guys had to do that as well. Adam from Triumph in Princeton has a lot of good stories and info. Finally, I'm not sure who the NJ beer historian would be but that can't be too hard to find out. The history would tie everything together and give some growth comparisons.
flying fish and heavyweight brewing are the first "southern" nj breweries i remember in the 90s. @jesskidden always has some great nj brewery specific historical posts and information too
Yeah, I'd agree with Heavyweight as one of the first (loved their barleywine and Belgian-style triple) but now they're gone. Tom Baker is a really great, super-nice guy though, so he'd be someone to talk to. He and Peggy Zwerver now own Earth Bread + Brewery and are involved at Bar Hygge.
