Maybe I'm not looking hard enough. I've never traded because it seems like quite an investment of both time and money, and pretty complicated.Plus, I'm not really into looking for rare stuff which seems to dominate trading. I am however interested in trying local/regional beers and I'm sure there must be others out there who want to as well. Not big name stuff, just good beer from other areas. Anyone?

Relatively new to trading myself (since September) with my sole interest being locals for locals. Admittedly there doesn't seem to be much interest on the daily trade requests but it hasn't been hard to find trading partners with the same goal.

I'll send you a pm and we can discuss it.

I'm always down to swap Local 4 Local too. (local for me is brews from VT/ME mostly). Feel free to message me if you want to set up something after the holiday rush is over.

Count me in as well - I love trading for locals. I can help with Surly, New Glarus, Barrel Theory, Dangerous Man, and a ton of Minnesota and Wisconsin stuff.

I'm in the same boat as a new trader and wanting to stick to locals. If you're interested, I'll reach out sometime after the first of the year and maybe we can work something out.

About every 3 weeks we see a post about how it is hard to find locals 4 locals, and it is if you look at the trade fourm, but it's not if you post in the trade forum.

I think what happens is new traders go on the ISO:FT forum and it is all acronyms and whales and they get discouraged. If you post a locals 4 locals trade yourself and you live in Maine, a ton of people will respond, I promise. I think we need an information post for new traders that says, don't search for local trades, create one yourself.

I started trading about a year ago and had this same reaction seeing the FT:ISO the first time, I had none of those beers to trade. Finally I just post local4local and I got some great trade partners out of it.

@Troutbeerbum you are already on the right track with the people who have responded here. Anyone of them is a good trade partner IMO.

You summed it up well. The trade forums get confusing, and to be honest, a little over complicated. I understand folks do this regularly and that stuff is there for a reason. I'm just a little more casual in that im willing to trade, but not overcomplicate things for myself.

Let me give you a little advice.
If you are trading cans, USPS flat rate boxes are your friend. 8 cans (16 oz) fit perfectly in a Medium box. I can get 12 16 oz and 4 12oz cans in a large box. That box will get anywhere in the country in 2 or 3 days.
I have done at least a dozen trades where the deal was I will send (fill in the blank) cans and you do the same.
When your ready, I will gladly do a trade like that with you. I have access to Kane, Carton, Magnify, Industrial Arts. Any questions, don't hesitate to send me a pm.
    Enjoy the holidays

I also enjoy trading locals, and helping out new traders with advice. If you ever have a question or would like some good Ohio beers (Jackie Os, fat heads, hoppin frog, Columbus brewing, etc) shoot me a message. I'll be glad to help, and spread the goodness from the buckeye state.

Thanks to everyone here. I'll get around to you all eventually. I think for me starting out I should just do one trade at a time and see how it goes. Definitely interested in trying beers from around the country and sharing some Maine/New England beers with others.

Anyone not interested in New Jersey beers right now hasn't done proper research. You guys are blowing up.

And in terms of locals, I once was a very active trader and 2/3 of the trades I did were local for local. You make great trade partners after a while and just send stuff you think your partner would like. I still get a kick out of chasing down specific beers occasionally for my tasting group, but local for local are the most fun trades of all.

You have enough interested folks in here from different parts of the country that you should seriously consider doing a small "beer it forward", where you each (pseudo-)randomly send local beer to each other. That's how I started a few years ago. Just keep it small, limit it to local stuff with limited distro, and let the magic happen...
