Will be in Atlanta Jan. 24-26 and would love to know of any restaurants with good food and good beer lists with local brews. I'll be going with work colleagues who aren't the brewpub type, so any place a little more trendy/upscale would be ideal. Staying at the Atlanta Waverly Hotel.

    Thanks in advance.

Just came back from a Peach Bowl trip to ATL. The Wrecking Bar and The Porter were highlights and within two blocks of each other.

"Trendy/upscale" and "good beer list" don't really jive in Atlanta. The nicer joints won't have much in the way of good beer, while the great beer places aren't very swanky. That said, Decatur area has several very nice restaurants, definitely upscale, with solid tap choices and then you can hit some of the best bars in the State right nearby. Brickstore, Leon's, The Marlay House, Corner Pub, etc.

Hopstix brewpub is becoming one of my new favorites. Can’t go wrong with porter/ wrecking bar. Krog street or ponce city markets would be great for a group too. Hop city and taps on ponce have some great local taps.

The Argosy is fantastic, and definitely the nicest bar in East Atlanta with the best food and beers. It's far from trendy though, and the area would scare any yuppie business types pretty fast.

Thanks, I appreciate it. What if I was looking for just good restaurants - any places near the Porter/Wrecking Bar which seem to be the favs? I like the idea of hitting them up after dinner!

Sotto Sotto is pretty close and it is a really nice Italian spot. Service and food are both great.

Check this out. Pretty good info here

For straight up dinner experience I recommend Kimball House. It is in Decatur, so not near Little 5, but Kimball House is a great casual fine dining experience with incredible cocktails and a good beer list. If you like Oysters, they are one of the best places in the city.

    How fancy/casual?

Casual: Industry Tavern, True Food Kitchen, Bantam & Biddy

Upscale casual: Seven Lamps, South City Kitchen

    Fancy: Bistro Niko

Are you going to find the rarest of the rare at these places? No. But, there's good locals poured at all these spots.

Piels, a good option is a short uber ride to Dresden dr. In Brookhaven, right next door to Buckhead. Good food from verde, kaleidoscope, valenzia, haven and vero pizzaria(my favorite). Beer growler Brookhaven is walking distance to these restaurants. They have 40 draft lines with lots of locals and also do crowlers to go if you want to bring some back home.

Thanks for all of the recommendations, much appreciated! Unfortunately both my meetings tomorrow got cancelled so I hopped an early flight back to Boston tonight. I'll definitely keep this list in time for the next time I'm in town.
