This really is the best solution. If I ever became homeless, I'd appreciate any free beer.

I know! You can't just say this beer sucks ... you really have to articulate why its not good. Definitely a tough task.

My family is well aware that in all things I buy, I am real picky, researching everything, etc - so it is nigh impossible to buy me a good gift I haven't suggested. Actually we all do this - so we can all be sure we get what we like. Sometimes we surprise each other with cheap/gag stuff too. I always Email them links to craft glassware, shirts, etc.

For my birthday last summer I was a bit leery when my adult daughter said she got me a six-pack. She knows I only drink craft but I didn't think she would be able to pick something I liked. She told the guy at the craft store that I like that beer with the baby eating breakfast! I got a nice selection of decent craft stouts, even though it wasn't baby season (FBS).

    Its beer so the options are limited. Aside from the mentioned solutions you gave you could;

    Drink it
Give to someone else to drink
    Pour it out

So, you have friends and relatives who know you are into beer, so they try to show they care about you by giving you a gift where they try to give you something they think you will enjoy, and your reaction is, since it is not exactly what you want, you criticize the gift rather than just be gracious?

    Cook with it
Put out a fire (as long as it's not high ABV)
    Target practice
    Bottle your own craft
    Serve it to in-laws

I bring them to younger people at work & hand 'em out. 100% of the time 22-25 year-old people act like I'm a conquering hero.

I have no solution for the beer that you have, but I politely suggest to family to buy me gift cards to craft beer places.

If it’s my money I am picky but when I get free beer I drink it. There are only a few beers I wouldn’t drink like heavy spiced or booze bombs. Otherwise, free beer i’ll Drink it.

Maybe because i’ve never had this happen and don’t have a lot of bad beer, just left over junk from get togethers.

This past summer was the first time that I tried using beer as slug bait in the bed where my tomato plants grow. I never realized how many slugs that I had in the garden! Or maybe the beer works so well that I was drawing them from the neighbors' house too.

I recently sent some beer to a friend that had never tried some local great beer like trillium, tree house, bissell, etc. without expecting anything in return. He picked me up some stuff local to him and brought it out when he came. Tried one can and it was hideous. We used the rest for brisket and stuck some in the basement fridge that I give to friends that want a beer but won't appreciate tree house. The rest we brought and left at a party

You didn't read my post carefully. I wrote "...Then I smile and politely thank them..."

And I usually reply at some point later with a non-committal comment that I drank the beers, but I leave out the part that I didn't care for them and only drank one.

I would never be so rude as to tell someone that I didn't like their gift.

Just hosted a new years party were I gave away all I'd accumulated since the end of summer through the fall. No shame in what I set out for my friends to have what they wanted, just stuff I wasnt wasting my time on. I go to parties through out the year were the host sets out a 12 pack of light beer. Not at my place....

    Here's a few I currently have :
-Folded Mountains Pale Ale, sold at Aldi's. BA average 3.38. Pretty harsh, no complexity.
-Esther's Lil Secret, Warped Wing, BA average 4.16.
"Chocolate Peanut Brittle Porter" Nope. Don't drink candy flavored beers. At all.
    -Lager, Legend, BA average 3.37.
Very unimpressive. Tastes too much like an AAL to me (a style I don't like.).

I've gotten some awful stuff that way. Old hoppy stuff, that goes turpentinish rather than "OK barleywine" : drain pour or slug trap .
Other stuff : gave it away to somebody who will drink it . (Strongbow "cider" , for ex: ~= Miller Lite + apple gum, so a ML drinker liked it.)
