I was doing a closed transfer from the spigot on my SS brewbucket into the keg and my ball lock disconnect kept getting clogged so I ended up just opening the keg, connecting the gas to the keg with 2-3 psi and sticking the hose into the beer that was in the keg. This was a very hoppy beer so I’m sure that didn’t help. Anyone else have this issue and have a recommendation? I’m hoping because I transferred with the gas connected I avoided oxidation but only time will tell. Thank you
Remove the poppers from the keg and the connector. Transfer as normal. When done reinsert the poppets and push out some of the beer as that will remove any air in the liquid out dip tube/poppets.
I had this same issue a couple months ago with a 5 gal batch DH'ed with 6 oz of pellets, no bag. I did the same thing, pushing with CO2 into the open keg and not threw the ball lock (which is what I found had clogged ultimately). Thanks for such a simple solution @TheBeerery.
Kind of defeats the purpose of loooow O2 brewing. Anyone who would closed xfer a NEIPA by removing poppets must love the suffering.
