    Huyghe - Delirium Tremens

Sampling another Belgian world classic. Much drier than I was expecting and very easy to drink. If it wasn't for the full mouthfeel one could be fooled that this is a mid to low ABV beer.

No more snow to shovel. Sunny today, but bone-chilling cold. A good day to stay inside, drink beer, and watch the first round of the playoffs. I like KC and Atlanta today.

Cheers you all! New Beer Sunday is coming. I am making buffalo wings and potato salad to test out the latest from Genesee Brewhouse today. The reason I think that this beer will pair well with the buffalo wings and their vinegar based sauce is because it remains malty and does not finish with oily hops that are too bitter and strip the palate. That malt that just edges out in the finish lets you perceive a sweetness to the beer that is based on it's floral and bright citrusy flavors. Lemon is the dominant citrus and the weedy dankness is like pepper and not gone off too catty. The tiny bit of tang I will use in my dressing will be from dijon mustard and black pepper. A perfect match I think. See you tomorrow with a review of the beer.

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Going to be another bitter cold day out there for one more day, but I am staying warm inside over here. No real plans for the day other than relaxing. Still have way too much stuff I need to review, won't need to make a beer haul for a while.

    Beers this morning:

Always incredible stuff! Haven't had this in a while, but they dropped the price by 2 dollars; so I picked up a fresh 6 pack this week. Aromas and flavors of huge bright grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, and pine; with some honey, light caramel, lightly toasted bread malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Good sized pine, citrus rind, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body and moderately crisp finishing. Balanced grainy malts and sticky/resinous/rindy hops/fruit in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing resin/rind dryness, no hop/fruit astringency. Quite aggressive, but easy drinking. Same amazing hop profile of the base beer, with huge vibrant grapefruit zest presence. Love it just as much as regular sculpin for the most part, but the aromas are definitely more impressive. Will get a pack of the base beer when I finish this off for sure.

Breaking into the gift pack, this is amazing! Aromas and flavors of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla, molasses, bourbon, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, grapefruit, citrus peel/rind, pine, and floral/grassy hops. Light-moderate pine/citrus rind bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; balanced creamy/silky malt, sticky/resinous hops, and bourbon/oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter hop/oak tannin dryness, minimal astringency. Minimal warming 12.8%, zero barrel booze. Dangerously smooth sipper. I originally reviewed the lower ABV 2015 version 2 years ago, this one is identically as impressive. Not overly hoppy but spot on American barleywine hop presence; with amazing barrel integration, malt complexity, and fruity yeast notes. Wonderful.

Fantastic! Glad these are in cans this time, smaller format. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, fudge, and herbal/pine hops; with lighter notes of raisin, licorice, smoke, charcoal, and coconut. Increasing booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop, roast/char bitterness; and mild bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; very creamy, silky, velvety mouthfeel; lightly slick, sticky, chalky, and tannic. Slightly drying bitter hop/oak tannins. No acrid/astringency. Dangerously smooth sipping; mildly warming 14.8%, zero barrel booze. Spot on RIS style complexity, with amazing barrel integration. Reviewed a 2015 bomber a year ago, just as impressive here. Looking forward to other barrel aged cans showing up(hopefully).

Insane NE DIPA! Aromas and flavors of huge tangerine, orange juice, peach, apricot, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, grapefruit, guava, lemon, citrus zest, berry, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate wheat, white bread dough, light honeyed malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Very minimal pine, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied bready/grainy creaminess in the mouthfeel. Slight hop stickiness, with a touch of increasing lingering bitter dryness. Zero hop astringency. Dangerously drinkable for 9.3%, minimal warming ABV. One of the absolute best in the style I've had, smoothness is unmatched. Pure citrus/tropical fruit juice hop flavors, with a touch of dankness. Never overly sweet or heavy feeling on malts for the body/ABV; perfectly balanced. Less than 1 month old dating. Glad these are in distro now, blows M-43 out of the water, but I will still be buying both

This is the highest-rated beer from Wisconsin, on this website. It is certainly delicious, but I don't know how it beats all of the Central Waters barrel-aged beers.

My guess is that it has a much wider appeal? Not everyone is a fan of barrel aged beer. It really is good and super drinkable, especially on a warm day. Either way, those are two great Wisconsin breweries.

It’s one of the best “fruit” beers I’ve ever had; and yet I’d give the top spot to CW’s BA Reserve Series. I haven’t had Black Gold yet, but I do have a bottle in my beer fridge - Cheers!

Reading through reviews it would appear this beer, or it's perception, can be wildly inconsistent. Stay warm friends and enjoy what's in your glass!
