My tasting group, as some of you might know, has an annual event called Bring Out Your Dead, a tasting with nothing but bad and expired beers. Some friends consider it our most fun tasting. We actually take leftovers of the worst of them and make a cuvee in a gallon sized glass we have for that purpose, and (try to) drink that too.

Other than that suggestion I have no other ideas for consuming bad beer as a beverage.

    1. Yes. The struggle is real.

    2. I try to use them on other people. If I have a bday party or something at my house or just the in laws are over and I know they like good stuff but don't appreciate it.
Or I will open one up, pour like 4oz for me, 4oz for my wife. If it is good, we will finish it. If its not, drain pour. I mean, you have to try them all at some point. Sometimes they end up being pretty decent. I have found that I am more likely to enjoy a random hoppy beer than I am a stout or porter.
Or ya, send to me :-)

My parents have bought me craft beer in the past for a holiday, birthday, etc. but they've always done a great job with the selection (I assume they asked a clerk for help).

As sad as it sounds, my sweet Grandmother always gets me a liquor store gift card for Christmas. She's on a fixed income (pension) so I would never assume her to buy me a bunch of pricey beers, but that's beside the point I guess... This year she bought me a 24 pack of Keystone Lager which I thanked her endlessly for in person (as I always do when she gifts me something), but didn't have the heart to tell her that I don't drink keystone nor did I plan to so... I decided to pass on the holiday spirit by bringing the 24 to a poker game over Christmas and sharing it with my friends.

If you have beer you don't like, don't pour it down the drain. Someone would be glad to drink your beer, whether its friends, family, or otherwise!

Correct me if I'm wrong @MNAle, but I believe he was saying that those descriptors are actually describing good beer - they aren't a negative descriptor - but to some people sound vile.

i.e. Occasionally simcoe and or citra hops can give off a flavor that is described like cat piss (I have never perceived this, but I know people who have) and some sours/wild ales especially when brewed with Brett can give off flavors that are described as wet horse blankets (mmmmmmmm).

If I haven't had it, I'll usually try it. If it's something I know I won't like and it's not complete junk, it goes in as a trade extra (especially IP if it is out of local distro).

Most people have caught on and have gifted me small gift cards/certificates for local craft stores, so I guess I'm fortunate.

Make up a new drinking game for a show you're enjoying (or not, because that would be relevant too). Take a power hour approach of pouring shots of beer, and down one every time something notable or thematic happens.

Host a mediocre beer party. You may be surprised how context plays a role in the enjoyment of beer if all you drink is "less than craft" for a night. Invite friends to bring cheap weird stuff they've been curious about, or never noticed before. Maybe have mediocre cheesy music to match. I recommend 80's hair metal and cheap beer- it's a fun combo.

Use this as an opportunity to try beer mixing. Maybe get one of those holiday flavored vodka nip samplers and go to town. What's the worst that can happen?

    Hi Sirnick,

I had gave a 12 oz bottle a try last year, but it wasn't for me. From the reviews a lot of people do though. I'm just a stout snob I think.
